Teen Support Groups in Torrance, CA

These groups are designed for ages 11-17 years old focusing on understanding emotional responses and triggers caused by anxiety, depression and/or social and life pressures. Group members will develop skills including identifying how our thoughts affect our feelings and how our feelings drive our behaviors by using an evidence-based curriculum and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It is my intent as the therapist for this to be a safe place where the client finds validation through interacting and sharing experiences with other group members and at the same time increasing confidence in themselves. Groups will be formed by ages.

Being a teenager is hard! Group members will learn strategies to identify triggers, cope with depressive thoughts, increase self esteem/awareness, communicate more effectively and set boundaries with family and friends. The benefit of this group is to feel support from others in the group who have similar difficulties, gain Cognitive Behavioral strategies to use in everyday life, have a better understanding of the meaning of life and what day to day experiences bring us.

If your child or teen is having trouble with school, learning, big emotions, getting along with others, or behavior, I'll help them understand their own brains & bodies and build the skills for emotional growth, independence, and healthy relationships.
My assessments (IEE, psycho-educational, psychological, FBA) in ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, anxiety, giftedness, & behavior help you learn about your child's needs and give a roadmap on what to do next. In therapy, I use a brain based approach, CBT, & ACT to handle stress with peers or school. I help parents support their child outside of sessions.

As a proud Clinical Social Worker/Therapist (LCSW), my passion and specialization centers around trauma in relationships as a child and through adulthood. The heart of my work is in the power of here and now processing, shifts in awareness and discovering new possibilities, rather than staying stuck in old patterns that may be hard to identify. This includes my inherent belief that our work together will move towards a place where my clients will take charge of their experience, their reactions, and will grow the capacity to live life on life's terms with an authentic sense of self and a felt sense of pride.

Children who have warm, supportive, nurturing relationships with their parents will be more likely to flourish, not only in school, but in all areas of their lives. Children want and need, from their parents, unconditional love and support, an environment built on respect and trust, and well-defined limits and boundaries to foster a strong parent-child relationship. As parents, it may not be easy but it may not be a difficult as you might think in order to encourage positive behavior from you child. Sometimes it might just be the little things that could make a world of difference.

Teens facing peer pressure, academic pressures, and stress from family conflicts often need a neutral and reasonable place to explore feelings, options and resolution to daily difficulties. Preparing for college testing, apps and intense courses, over-whelming schedules can aggravate anxieties, depression, confusion. Teen relationships can be stormy and painful too. Body image, feeling worthless or unattractive, or seeking peer approval ineffectively also trouble teens. This group allows teens to process their issues while remaining focused on not sabotoging their future college/career success and emotional/physical health.

Our programs include four DBT skills groups a week that cover core mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance. Teens learn a new DBT skill in each group. Our staff help teens practice these skills so that they know how to use them in their daily lives.

Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for teens includes a weekly multi-family group, key to our family-centered teen treatment approach. These sessions unite families, teens, and therapists in a supportive setting for shared learning. The group focuses on psychoeducation, giving families vital knowledge about mental health, addiction, and effective coping skills. Participants find comfort in peer support, realizing they're not alone. Families learn from others facing similar challenges, building a sense of community. This approach boosts treatment engagement, enhances communication skills, and strengthens family dynamics. These elements are crucial in supporting teens through recovery.

I work with relationship struggles, pre-marital counseling, individuals struggling with divorce, children and adolescent issues, low self esteem, and dating.
When you are feeling depressed or anxious, you have a real reason to want to be heard. You communicate through words and body language. A child communicates through play and art. Whichever way you communicate, I am dedicated to hear what you have to say and gain a real understanding of what is going on. Together, we can explore your uniqueness and find strength in that. Whether it is a family issue or a personal one, taking care of yourself is a priority. I believe that the basic foundation of therapy is a good relationship between therapist and client.
