Here is a place to bring the deep sadness and love that comes with loss of a pregnancy, stillbirth, an infant. Through telling your story, listening to others, we create a place to feel safe in working with your grief, to honor the child you lost, care for yourself, and support others as you walk this path. Bringing in the wisdom of our ancestors, we learn about ways grief has been expressed and held in the past, and find the ways that work best to hold and express this experience that is unique to each person.

In our complex world, learning to set boundaries is more important than ever before! I have developed this group to help individuals learn how to deal with the narcissist or boundary violator in their lives. We will work together in a mutual and supportive environment to understand the dynamics behind boundary violators, find our role in maintaining toxic relationships, role play real and provide the tools and strategies you need to trust yourself, your decisions and build healthy relationships.

This support group is for adults navigating life in the “sandwich generation”—caring for children while also supporting aging parents.. This group is grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and centers on building psychological flexibility: the ability to stay present with what’s hard, loosen the grip of unhelpful thoughts, and take values-based action—even in the midst of stress, grief, and uncertainty. You don’t need to choose between caring for others and caring for yourself. ACT offers a way to hold both.

I'm also a mom of 3, in addition to having personal pregnancy loss/infertility experience.

Loss is inevitable but being alone with your feelings is not. In a circle of love and support, we will look back through our lives, celebrate our resilience, our successes, and make room for grieving that which we've lost or never had. We will laugh together. We will cry together. We will call on our innate wisdom to help us move through this life with grace and gratitude. Groups are small. Please call Ilene to express interest. 707.634.4824

This group is for adults grieving the death of a loved one. Grief can feel overwhelming, isolating, and unpredictable, it does not follow a set timeline. This is a supportive, in-person space where you do not have to go through it alone. Together, we slow down and make room for your experience. You will have space to share at your own pace, connect with others, and feel less alone in your grief. We may also use expressive practices when helpful. This group will begin once enrollment is reached. If you are interested, please reach out to discuss details.

Held three times per year, this 6-week workshop uses art as a healing language for adults ages 18+ who are looking for a space to be in community and explore their experiences of grief and loss. This is a peer-support group facilitated by myself and local artist Amy Vidra. We cultivate a warm, supportive, low-pressure environment - no art experience necessary. This is a closed group of only 8-10 participants, so pre-registration is required via the Pence Website. Cost is only $35 for all 6 weeks, due to generous funding by community members Bob & Joanne Andresen.

Everyone grieves differently, and there is no one 'right' answer for how to cope. But you don't need to be alone in this process, no matter how long you've been grieving. I offer a safe and compassionate place to explore the complex emotions of loss and will provide tools and strategies as we build a community of hope and connection. The group will have six sessions with a 2-week break before continuing with the next six weeks. Feel free to call for further information and a free consultation.

Being in community, either in an ongoing group, or in ritual space, is a powerful way to feel less alone in grief, and learn from the wisdom of others. Sometimes we feel totally alone in our struggle only to find that so many others in the circle feel the same way, too. People in our lives often serve as mirrors, reflecting to us the myriad facets of ourselves. Together, we learn skills, guided meditations, movement, and expressive arts activities, using the power of the collective to heal more quickly than doing so alone.

This group is an opportunity to explore how you relate to others in real time. Rather than following a set agenda, we will attend to what arises between us in the moment. Through open and honest conversation, participants deepen emotional awareness, discover relational patterns, and come to understand their impact on others as it unfolds. The group is for adults ages who are curious about how they show up with others and who are willing to engage authentically in community together.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
