Grief Support Groups in Santa Rosa, CA

In our complex world, learning to set boundaries is more important than ever before! I have developed this group to help individuals learn how to deal with the narcissist or boundary violator in their lives. We will work together in a mutual and supportive environment to understand the dynamics behind boundary violators, find our role in maintaining toxic relationships, role play real and provide the tools and strategies you need to trust yourself, your decisions and build healthy relationships.

Here is a place to bring the deep sadness and love that comes with loss of a pregnancy, stillbirth, an infant. Through telling your story, listening to others, we create a place to feel safe in working with your grief, to honor the child you lost, care for yourself, and support others as you walk this path. Bringing in the wisdom of our ancestors, we learn about ways grief has been expressed and held in the past, and find the ways that work best to hold and express this experience that is unique to each person.

This support group is for adults navigating life in the “sandwich generation”—caring for children while also supporting aging parents.. This group is grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and centers on building psychological flexibility: the ability to stay present with what’s hard, loosen the grip of unhelpful thoughts, and take values-based action—even in the midst of stress, grief, and uncertainty. You don’t need to choose between caring for others and caring for yourself. ACT offers a way to hold both.

Loss is inevitable but being alone with your feelings is not. In a circle of love and support, we will look back through our lives, celebrate our resilience, our successes, and make room for grieving that which we've lost or never had. We will laugh together. We will cry together. We will call on our innate wisdom to help us move through this life with grace and gratitude. Groups are small. Please call Ilene to express interest. 707.634.4824

Everyone grieves differently, and there is no one 'right' answer for how to cope. But you don't need to be alone in this process, no matter how long you've been grieving. I offer a safe and compassionate place to explore the complex emotions of loss and will provide tools and strategies as we build a community of hope and connection. The group will have six sessions with a 2-week break before continuing with the next six weeks. Feel free to call for further information and a free consultation.

This group is designed to target the specific needs of the 'sandwich generation’: those who are simultaneously nurturing the growth of children and attending to physical or mental decline in their parents. Caregivers are often pulled by competing forces that leave them little time for self-care, reflection and nurturing support. If this description resonates for you, consider carving out special time just for yourself on Friday afternoons to be part of this group. This will be held online or via Zoom to accommodate caregiver schedules.

This group offers a holistic, trauma-informed and experiential therapeutic approach. The group aims to help members discover strengths, uncover and realign belief systems, improve their ability to relate and interact with others, receive feedback, and identify how societal/cultural themes influence their identities and lives. We will use dialogue and discussion, integrating images and metaphors as they surface, focused on what is happening here-and-now to deepen our understanding of our relational experiences. In being curious about moments of disconnection within relationships, we can build greater awareness of ourselves, the collective and what is possible in our lives.

8-Week GRM group meeting on Monday evenings in Moraga, CA. (not drop-in) We will learn the myths about grief that have been undermining our ability to recover from loss. Then we'll look at our own history of loss, find one loss to work more in-depth on, and learn how to get complete with the unresolved issues surrounding that loss. Many past clients have said they feel like a weight has been lifted off of them at the conclusion of the program. NEXT START DATE: JUNE 3rd, 2024. Go to www.Authenticitina.com to learn more.

Grieving and processing the pain of a pregnancy loss is physically and emotionally consuming. Space and care are needed to move through shock, anger and sadness. It isn't uncommon to feel defective, angry, jealous or hopeless as other people become pregnant, have babies and carry on while you feel like your dreams have been shattered. Connect with others and feel less alone while processing your loss in a safe, non-judgmental space. Please RSVP to receive zoom link.

Grief Support Groups
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
