For those who learn by doing, you will get immense value and satisfaction from an Interpersonal Psychotherapy Process Group. You will learn about your relationship patterns and change the ones that don't work, all while offering both support and challenge, where members hold each other accountable. The majority of the men in my groups stay once they join as they continue to get deep connection and value from them. There are currently two In-Person groups on Thursdays. 515-715pm, 730-900pm. These are hybrid groups meaning they are in-person while a handful of times in the year meeting on zoom.

With this background I treat a range of issues including stress, anxiety, depression, anger issues, relationship conflict, job and relationship dissatisfaction, and specific issues men face.
Suffering can come in many forms. It is personal and distressing and can also be overwhelming, paralyzing, and lonely. But you do not have to face it alone. Many have come to me for help with what makes them unhappy and out of balance. I take satisfaction when my clients accept their own complexity and uniqueness and have successful outcomes in their lives due to therapy.
NOTE: AT THIS TIME, I'M NOT OFFERING A GROUP BUT MAY BE OFFERING IT IN THE FUTURE. Recognize how and why your anger gets triggered and out of control. Identify feelings and underlying emotions. Interrupt the cycle before it causes damage. Learn and apply skills and tools and learn to express important feelings more effectively and safely. Find the motivation to choose healthy outlets.

Do you recognize some of these ways in which your or others' unhealthy anger gets expressed?
Anger therapy may be helpful if your anger is negatively affecting something of value, such as intimate relationships; employment; health; friendships; relationships with co-workers; your freedom. You may be looking into anger therapy because someone else thinks it's a good idea, or because you realize you need help with reducing stress and frustration.
Anger is a pervasive problem in many people's lives that is associated with conflict, frustration, irritability, and stress. It negatively impacts one's mental and physical health and personal, social, and professional relationships. This group addresses: (1) Feelings of antagonism towards significant others, family, friends, or coworkers (2) Frustrations that tend to escalate to anger (3) Interpersonal conflicts that both contribute to and result from anger (4) Muscle tension, hostility, accelerated breathing, and anxiety. The group therapy will incorporate treatment techniques from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness Meditation, and Wisdom Therapy to develop new strategies that reduce anger.

There are specific, practical, scientifically proven methods for increasing happiness, success, and well being for yourself and in your relationships and significantly reducing anger, anxiety, stress, job loss, relationship conflicts, and hypertension.
I am an instructor at Stanford University and the Director of the Wisdom Therapy Institute in Palo Alto and also the University Director of the Ph.D. Clinical Training that integrates best practices from western psychological science (Emotional Intelligence & Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and eastern traditions (Mindfulness Meditation, Empathy, Compassion, & Humility).

Stepping into therapy with someone is an inherently risky process. You are courageously opening up to someone that you don't really know, in hopes of changing, of finding something new, of building a relationship that can create positive change. I respect those who take the leap and I get the importance that you find the right therapist so that you can be understood at a deep level and begin looking more closely at the places in your life that you would like to see change.

I specialize in working with couples, co-parenting after divorce, anger management, and anxiety disorders.
My approach is simple, and different. You can learn to be more empowered in your relationships, with your partner, your family, yourself, your anxieties, your depression. What do you want to experience in your relationships? What do you want to create I focus on helping your "best self" be more in control of your behavior. Learn to let your vision of how you want to live and behave control what you do rather than letting your past learned defenses and feelings be in charge of your behavior.

How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.
How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.
Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.
What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
