My goal is to help my clients function at their highest level to lead their best lives. When feeling depressed, anxious, stuck, angry, or otherwise emotionally overwhelmed, it can be difficult to effectively participate in society. Human beings are inherently social and our well-being depends greatly on our ability to relate to others. Psychotherapy can help to improve interpersonal relationships, reveal insights about ourselves, highlight opportunities for cognitive and behavioral growth, and provide the support to take steps toward a more satisfying future.

We meet weekly in my home studio space in Berkeley for 90 minutes. We begin with a listening/talking stick circle and then transition to stitching and mending members' own projects in the company of our small group. Members can also work on a communal sewing project together. Members bring their own supplies, snacks and beverages. We end with a closing listening/talking stick circle.

Hello, I am Dr. Ming Wang, my English name is Michelle Wang. I have spent the last two decades delving in the issues of belonging, openness and inaccessibility, healing and mending, inner facing self and outer facing personas, through many avenues: traditional therapy, virtual reality, psychedelics, expressive arts, sensory deprivation (darkness, float tanks), culinary arts, stitching & mending. I've worked with veterans of war, refugees of war, immigrants, children, teens, marriages (my favorite), and many many people who feel different in some way.

Counseling, to me, is a collaborative space where clients are empowered to explore, find their own path, and work towards their goals. I’m a queer, neurodiverse counselor, and while I am especially passionate about discussing gender, sexuality, and neurodiversity with clients, I enjoy working on a variety of concerns with clients of any identity or experience. Therapy with me often includes building self-awareness, learning and practicing validation, and challenging oneself to make desired changes at a realistic pace.

Do you crave deeper and more meaningful connections? Would you like to connect with other Asian-Americans? Are you curious about how your cultural upbringing influences the way you show up in groups? This group offers participants an experience of studying how they interact in the group. Group members reflect upon their experiences in the here-and-now in relation to the others, exploring interpersonal dynamics. Participants are encouraged to speak honestly and freely in the moment, which offers a chance to connect more deeply with oneself and with others.

Have you ever asked yourself these questions - Who am I? Who are my people? Do I belong? Why do I keep repeating the same patterns in relationships? Why do I have trouble standing up or speaking up for myself? Why can't I give to myself the way I give to others? Perhaps you seem fine on the outside, but struggle silently on the inside. I can help you explore these questions and find a deeper sense of connectedness to yourself and others. I can help you connect more with your body, emotions and experience, instead of living mostly in your head. I can help you feel more like a human being, instead of a “human doing."
This relationship-focused group will invite you to discover more about yourself in relation to others through expressive arts activities, experiential exercises, and mutual sharing and relating to other group members. We will be exploring group and 1-1 connection through improv games, movement activities, visual arts and collective creativity to help deepen the exploration process. You will be invited to self-reflect, to practice empathic listening skills, and to develop your capacity to share & relate on a deeper level. You do not need to have any experience with the arts in order to participate.

In the times we live in, how do we stay centered in the life we truly want to live? How do we become empowered to show up for ourselves and the world we wish to create? By attending to the parts of you that are calling for attention, you are activating the process of change.

As a therapist, I understand that seeking support is a significant and courageous step, and I’m here to meet you wherever you are in your journey. I offer a collaborative, personalized therapeutic experience tailored to your unique needs. Whether you're navigating challenges related to cultural identity, family expectations, mental health stigma, or substance use, I provide a compassionate, direct approach that fosters growth and healing. I specialize in supporting individuals, couples, and families, especially within the Asian community, using a harm-reduction model for chemical dependency.
I explain how to do it, demo it with a couple, and answer questions about it. I'll teach one member of a couple to lead a protocol where they can help heal (reduce the trigger / fight / flight / freeze response) for their partner. They use a combination of some really sweet orchestrated intimacy while guiding their partner through a safe to use at home anti-trauma technique that works with individuals. It is beautiful when we can be part of the healing process rather than a victim of our partner's anxiety.

IN THE TIME OF COVID, WE ALL HAVE TO UP OUR CONNECTION GAME. Face it, you love your partner, they drive you crazy. And now that we’re around each other 24/7 and some of us with kids crawling all over us, we are not getting our needs met and we are hurting each in ways we are not proud of. Before it was an option to just let our old patterns kind of work. Not now! You are not alone! The whole world is experiencing this. What is essential now is for couples to upgrade. You won't have an 8 hour break (at work) to recover from what your partner just did. We need to actively practice COUPLES SKILLS THAT WORK. It's not optional now!

Are you looking for a new creative way to deal with difficulties in life and get in touch with your best self? Do you feel like you’ve tried everything with your child, but they struggle to benefit from traditional talk therapy? As art therapists, we incorporate talk therapy with art making to help our clients unlock their creative potential, look at problems with fresh eyes, and develop new creative coping skills for managing difficult emotions. If you or your child is feeling blocked by past trauma, stuck in destructive patterns, or overwhelmed by depression or anxiety, then I encourage you to reach out. You are not alone.
This facilitated weekly group will utilize a combination of psychoeducation, group process/discussion and experiential activities (mindfulness, trauma-release, expressive arts, etc) to explore our diverse experience as men of color. Part of our work as self-identified men of color is to unlearn and heal from the violence of systemic oppression, especially the toxic masculinity perpetuated by patriarchy. 'Toxic masculinity' is an inherently narrow and restrictive band of behavior, belief and appearance that often perpetuates harm to all genders. We will explore and re-define our relationship to healthy masculinity. Participants will need to have an initial interview for acceptance into this group.

I support my clients to cultivate awareness and capacity to unwind from unhealthy thought and behavior patterns. I do this by drawing on their innate strengths and resilience. Collaboratively we learn to navigate challenging emotions and life transitions to rediscover aliveness, power, joy, purpose, care and a sense of connection. I bring dynamic qualities including curiosity, creativity and warmth into sessions for growth towards wholeness. My approach is guided by mindful awareness, honest inquiry and deep compassion. I am grounded in social justice, recognizing how social-historical factors impact well-being. I believe healing is a journey towards liberation.
