As we navigate through your child’s trauma/s, you and your child will develop the knowledge & understanding to support your child’s future.
Trauma is complex and affects the mind and body. When children and teens are exposed to a traumatic event or chronic trauma, their bodies’ endure toxic stress. Often children and teens are unable to communicate their emotions and thoughts due to the inability to comprehend their experience. Parents struggle knowing how to support their child and fear of causing further harm. Trauma heals through resolving unresolved memories, emotions and beliefs surrounding the experience. Addressing trauma is essential.

TRE helps individuals release stress or tension as a result of difficult life circumstances, immediate or prolonged stressful situations, or traumatic life experiences. TRE is a set of six simple exercises that help individuals release tension by evoking a muscular shaking process, also called neurogenic tremors, at the body's center of gravity protected by the psoas muscles. The exercises elicit the tremors in a controlled and sustained manner. This natural shaking process begins to release deep chronic muscular tension stored in the body, which in turn relaxes the anxiety of our minds.

Balint groups help health professionals by focussing on everyday work, imagining what a particular practitioner's experience with a patient is like, focussing on the clinician’s emotions arising within the consultation. It’s not about knowing, diagnosing or supervising. We ask- how do I feel? Why am I struggling ? What touches me about this patient? We recognize the relevance to our own experiences. The group develops, becoming searching and intimate, listening to the unconscious, studying how the presenter's feelings affect the relationship, and exploring the subjective experience of clinical work, offering warmth, reducing burnout and reigniting passion, selfawareness, collegiality, connection and mutual support.

Yuma Counseling Services is Yuma County's premier provider for emotional and mental well-being. We collaborate with high-functioning clients who are seeking more fulfillment, satisfaction, and joy in their life. Our clients are commonly successful in most areas of their lives, and yet find themselves struggling with relationship difficulties, battling addictions, needing help adjusting to life changes and unforeseen stressors, or facing underlying trauma that has created symptoms of anxiety and depression. There is so much that a person can do to help themselves improve their lives. At the same time, there are often hidden barriers that we usually cannot see that keep us from fully healing and changing. Having the compassionate assistance of a compassionate counselor can make all the difference. Why waste another moment of your life trying to "do it on your own", especially if that strategy isn't getting you the long-term results you have been seeking.
Ever feel like you are lacking tangible tools for managing anxiety, depression, stress, or impulsivity? Do you ever feel alone in whatever it is you're battling? Do you struggle with feeling like your emotions are out of your control? * If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may be a great candidate for FYS's DBT-based skills group!

Trauma and PTSD Support Groups
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
