Adolescents / Teenagers (14 to 19) Support Groups
Adolescence describes the teenage years between 13 and 19 and can be considered the transitional stage from childhood to adulthood. However the physical and psychological changes that occur in adolescence can start earlier, and it can be a time of both disorientation and discovery. The transitional period can bring up issues of independence and self-identity. Sometimes teens may be experimenting with drugs and alcohol or sexuality. During this time, peer groups and external appearance tend to increase in importance.

For help with adolescents or for a Newtown adolescent support group these professionals provide help for adolescent development and adolescent education. They include adolescent support groups in Newtown, adolescent psychologists, and adolescent counselors. They can help with adolescent behavior, adolescent learning and adolescent discipline.

Newtown teen Support Groups also provide help for troubled teens in Newtown or troubled teen boys and girls. For parents of out-of-control teens, Newtown support groups can help with communicating and understanding your teen. And support groups in Newtown can help with teenager behavior and teen learning issues.

What is the difference between Group Therapy and a Support Group?
Newtown Support Groups and Group Therapy both offer a safe place to explore important issues. It is important, however, to understand the difference between the two.

Group therapy in Newtown is led by a therapist, group psychotherapist, or group counselor, and is generally structured around an issue. The therapist guides the group through a program as the group works together to better understand thoughts and feelings. Experienced therapists lead psychotherapy groups for various ages, such as adults, and specific issues including anger management, anxiety, and coping skills.

Support groups in Newtown are usually facilitated by a therapist or counselor, but can also be led by members with lived experiences. Generally, a support group is less structured than a therapy group. Support groups bring together members to provide support and strength to each other, often around a common challenge such as addiction or grief.

Most therapy groups will meet for a fixed length of time with a consistent group of members, while many support groups meet for an indefinite period of time with members coming and going.
