Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based approach designed to reduce emotion dysregulation, impulsive behavior, self-harm and suicidal ideation, and treat other mental health or behavioral issues. The goal of DBT is to help teens change ineffective behavior patterns by learning skills that will help them reach their goals. Our programs include four DBT skills groups a week that cover core mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance. Teens learn a new DBT skill in each group. Our staff help teens practice these skills so that they know how to use them in their daily lives.

As a new or expecting dad, the changes ahead can seem overwhelming, with so many unknowns that await in this new adventure called Fatherhood. Like many new dad's, you might be experiencing the following: Physical and emotional symptoms (like nausea, headaches, poor sleep, and mood swings); Worries/fears related to the potential social, financial, and/or psychological changes ahead; Questions about the kind of dad you want to become; Knowing how to balance your needs with those of your wife and child. Becoming a DAD in the new millennium means creating supportive connections for your optimal health.

Based on Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), SMART Recovery (Self-Management and Recovery Training) offers an evidence-based approach designed to help individuals struggling with addiction and provides practical skills to help teens manage their thoughts, emotions and behaviors. Although SMART Recovery is an abstinence-oriented program, it allows flexible goal setting, whether that means reducing certain behaviors with a harm reduction approach or working towards complete sobriety. Unlike the 12-Step model, SMART Recovery offers a more achievable recovery path, giving teens the tools to make positive and sustainable changes in their lives without the pressure of a lifelong commitment.

I will be utilizing Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), an evidence based treatment modality that is effective in the treatment of anxiety and depression. ACT combines mindfulness and acceptance which helps reduce symptoms and improves emotional flexibility. Small groups provide a safe yet dynamic environment for change. I am splitting teen category into two groups, 13-16 and 17-19 years old.

While The Daring Way(tm) is about developing a courage practice grounded in self-worth, Rising Strong(tm) is about regaining our footing during fall-down moments. Rising Strong(tm) builds on the lessons of The Daring Way(tm) but also stands alone as a guide for competently dealing with emotions. In Rising Strong(tm) we examine the stories we make up during our falls and get curious about the emotions that arise (The Reckoning), explore the inaccuracies in our stories (The Rumble), and author a brave new ending in which we rise with even more courage and conviction to our values (The Revolution).
