Facing our trauma head-on is some of the most difficult work we will ever do. This is where I come in- I help my clients by working through old chapters to move onto new ones. Interactions with clients stir up feelings, thoughts and impulses. Describing these dynamics in the presence of others helps make conscious choices about how to use that information in therapeutically effective ways. Marian Salley, LCSW and Elizabeth Stahl LPC offer a strong psycho-dynamic approach, with the belief that talking about and analyzing the feelings that come up with clients and within the consultation group is valuable no matter what modality you prefer. This is an Online Consultation Group For Mental Health Professionals that also provides supervision hours towards LPCC and LCSW licensure within the state of Colorado.

Living in a topsy turvy world can knock you off balance. There are many things we have no control over, like how others react when we express our feelings, thoughts and perspectives about whats going on and how it impacts us. Even with those closest to us we can find ourselves censoring what we are saying to avoid a conflict, not hurt feelings or negotiating biases that get in the way of being heard. Crafting how we speak is necessary with others and unspoken needs, desires, truths... are often at the roots of distress. Speak freely in the presence of another. Get know your own mind. Therapy does not require emotional reciprocity.

You stopped going to school in 2020, and now you are back, perhaps feeling out of place. Now you are two, almost three grades ahead, feeling like you may be missing something. COVID-19 has had an enormous impact on your life, in school and in many other areas. This group is an open support group welcoming members of all genders between the ages of 13 and 17 to share about insecurities, anxiety, anger, fear, and successes as you figure out how to make sense of the impacts of the last two years.

Everyone comes to therapy with a unique story. Whatever may be bringing you in, I can assure you that no other person has told your story before. With a fresh, curious perspective, together we can explore life's problems to help you understand yourself more deeply. In shining a light on hidden beliefs, feelings, and patterns of behavior, you can feel free to decide whether the story you came in with is the one you want to continue living in. Problems that often lead my clients towards deeper therapeutic exploration include self doubt, relationship conflict, worries about sex and sexuality, addictions and compulsions, and trauma.

Meeting weekly since 2018. This kind of therapy group is for deep exploration of struggles with openness, intimacy, being real emotionally, and taking the risk of trusting others. It is an intensely here-and-now oriented "interpersonal process" group for experienced therapy clients. This is different than a basic support group or a psycho-educational "skills" group. For a more detailed description, please call me for more info, and I'm happy to see what you are looking for and if this kind of group might be a good fit for you.

Currently I have openings for Group Therapy (not for individual or couples). I am happy to refer you to trusted colleagues if you would like to chat about that. All our therapists track how effective we are - and we publish our results. That's what makes The Colorado Center for Clinical Excellence different. Creating the life you want can be challenging when you don’t have the support you need. Most people come up against situations that are too difficult to handle alone. Sometimes anxiety and sadness can become obstacles to a fulfilling life. Talking with someone who gets you can often help. I help clients focus on their goals and determine what they need to do to achieve them in a safe and supportive environment. I believe in a co-creation between the therapist and client. I will be by your side as we uncover the strength you have to heal and support you in moving in new directions.

We all contain the inner wisdom to heal ourselves and move towards being an authentic, positive and loving person. The courage to be vulnerable -by moving toward our pain and confusion as well as our joy- utterly transforms and frees us. I am honored to enter into the sacred space of therapy together with my clients. I use an integrative, trauma informed, and strength based approach combining empathy, mindfulness, and radical acceptance as well as a plethora of therapeutic tools (ie--imagery, parts work, role play, body/somatic awareness). I have a passionate social justice orientation and am experienced in a wide breadth of issues.

FAQs - About Group Therapy and Support Groups
How can I find a support group in 80010?
Search for nearby support groups by inputting your city, zip code, or the name of the group into the search bar. From there, you can filter to find a group that suits your needs, whether you are looking for support for a teenager, a group that focuses on a specific issue, such as depression, or a particular program type, such as one geared toward developing social skills. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.
How does group therapy work?
Therapy groups are led by one or more therapists and serve to help people process their experiences and learn from others who understand their challenges firsthand. They can be based on a specific issue, such as addiction, grief, physical illnesses, parenting, and caregiving. They can involve a specific type of program or therapy, such as a social skills group or CBT group. They can also be specific to a particular population or community, such as teens or LGBTQ.
Support groups, like Alcoholics Anonymous, also focus on a specific issue, but are typically led by members with lived experiences and are less structured than therapy groups. Most therapy groups will meet for a fixed length of time with a consistent group of members, while many support groups meet for an indefinite period of time with members coming and going.
What are the benefits of group therapy?
Support groups help connect people with shared challenges or physical and mental health conditions. In a group setting, participants can receive support and feedback from peers and can acquire new skills, strategies and perspectives by listening to one another. Discussing your experience with someone who also has a cancer diagnosis, or whose son also struggles with addiction, for example, can help you feel less alone, reduce distress, find empathy and connection, and learn practical or medical information that has helped others. Group therapy can also be a more affordable option than individual therapy and just as effective.
Is group therapy as effective as individual therapy?
Support groups can be deeply valuable for both emotional support and/or treatment outcomes. It’s difficult to make a blanket statement on efficacy due to the many different types of support groups and conditions treated, but group therapy has been found to be just as effective as individual therapy in establishing long-term abstinence for conditions such as substance abuse, addiction and alcohol abuse.
How much does group therapy cost?
Group counseling is typically less expensive than individual counseling, with each session costing on average between $60 to $75. Meanwhile, individual therapy sessions can run anywhere from $100 to $200 and up, even after insurance. It is possible to find low-cost group therapy options and many therapists offer group sessions free of charge.
Does insurance cover group therapy?
As with individual therapy, many insurance companies do offer coverage for group therapy sessions. However, the coverage varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider. Individuals are encouraged to check with their insurance providers to verify coverage.
How long does group therapy last?
The length of a support group session is often one hour but can fall anywhere between 45 minutes and two hours. The amount of time that people remain in a support group varies based on their specific needs and goals and the type of therapy. Some individuals may seek a shorter-term group, such as a bereavement group, that may last between six and 20 weeks. Some may seek a longer-term group that lasts for a year or indefinitely.
What are the limitations of support groups?
Support groups have many benefits, but there are a few limitations as well. Support groups do not constitute formal therapeutic or medical treatment, and are not run by licensed mental health professionals, so some people may opt for group therapy or individual therapy instead. Additionally, support groups can depend on the other participants, so a disruptive individual has the potential to mar the group dynamic, and the anecdotal information shared may sometimes be unhelpful or inaccurate. Because it is a group setting, confidentiality can be more difficult to guard and participants receive less personalized attention than they would in an individual therapy session.
