The body is an underutilized resource for healing and expression. There is nothing quite like dancing to get some trapped energy and emotions out of the body! In contrast to traditional forms of mindfulness, Dancing Mindfulness is active and social. Rather than isolating yourself and trying to force yourself to sit-still and clear your mind, mindful group dance allows you to find the peace and release you’ve been searching for. Workshops are held twice a month at outdoor locations as weather permits - Currently Unavailable*

If you’re reading this page, my guess is that you’ve finally had enough, and finally feel ready to reach out for help. How you feel about yourself doesn’t align with how you’d like to feel, and your relationships aren’t turning out the way you hoped they would. You worry so much that you worry about worrying, and you get lost in made-up scenarios of "what if..." Maybe you aren’t sure how to ask for what you want, and declare what you need. Maybe you grew up in a home where your family didn't take good care of you, or someone you trusted betrayed you. Past pains still hurt, and you aren’t sure how to heal. You're in the right place!

Mindfulness Eating is not about dieting, deprivation or giving up foods you enjoy. It's about cultivating mindfulness - the calm and awareness needed to eat when you are hungry and stop when you are satisfied. This customized program - specifically designed for people who love food, wine and eating out - includes guided experiences of mindful eating, so it can become part of your lifestyle in a way that feels easy and natural.

Art therapy is unique because it goes beyond traditional talk therapy by promoting your inner voice, inner wisdom, and inner psyche to emerge through a variety of creative techniques incorporating, symbols, pictures, line, shape, color, movement, drama, music, and metaphor. When it is difficult to put words to our thoughts and emotions, art therapy helps bypass these barriers.

It's easy to embrace life when all is going well. It's more of a challenge when you’re feeling stressed, hurt, doubtful, afraid, angry, and/or ashamed. Don't lose hope. Life's difficulties can become the fertile ground for discovery, transformation, healing and freedom in our lives, instead of being a source of struggle & suffering. The format of this group is very casual. We'll start with a check in, followed by questions & sharing. If you don’t feel like sharing, it’s okay to just observe. This group is powerful way to support men to transform their lives. This group won't 'fix' you or your situation. It doesn't work on the basis that you are 'broken' and need fixing. Through sharing stories, experiences, and learning new tips and techniques, men can often provide each other with insights and new perspectives on their lives. This group provides you with an opportunity to share your experiences with other men and to hear what other men are experiencing, all within in a safe environment. A safe environment includes having a clear mutual respect and confidentiality.

Authentic Men is associated with not acting like someone else, voicing your own truths. NOT being pressured into decisions or judgments by outside influences. It is about trusting YOUR heart, your gut instinct and following it.Being authentic is not an easy road.. It means that you will potentially have to go against the grain of what is considered 'normal", to stick your neck out for what you really stand for. We offer Men's Recovery groups after initial evaluation. Groups are 1.5 hours and group size is up to 12 clients with both a female and male group leader. This is an open processing group where you will discuss what happens in daily life and how it has affected recovery. Although this encourages some 12-step approaches, it is not required to be in attendance of AA. Clients must receive individual evaluation before joining our groups. Clients must be motivated for sobriety.

Life is a series of transitions - some peaks and some valleys. I find these valleys often are a result of internal conflict and external events or pressure. I believe that we all have an authentic self and much of the internal conflict comes from living inauthentically, which develops into maladaptive behaviors. There’s “the way it seems” and “the way it is,” and sometimes we all need someone to remind us of “the way it is.” That’s where I come in - my goals are to work TOGETHER with you to navigate a new path toward living your most authentic life and finding inner peace and confidence to be that person.

As a licensed professional clinical counselor with 25 years of experience in the mental health field, I specialize in helping people discover their best selves and their own power to overcome trauma and adversity. If you find yourself being controlled by the events of your past and your own emotions, that may be because our bodies and brains are wired for protection and preservation. When that happens, our own thoughts and feelings can seem to betray us and hold us back with feelings of overwhelm, depression and anxiety. However, our bodies also have the intrinsic ability to heal given the right guidance and interventions.

FAQs - About Group Therapy and Support Groups

How can I find a support group in 40206?

Search for nearby support groups by inputting your city, zip code, or the name of the group into the search bar. From there, you can filter to find a group that suits your needs, whether you are looking for support for a teenager, a group that focuses on a specific issue, such as depression, or a particular program type, such as one geared toward developing social skills. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

How does group therapy work?

Therapy groups are led by one or more therapists and serve to help people process their experiences and learn from others who understand their challenges firsthand. They can be based on a specific issue, such as addiction, grief, physical illnesses, parenting, and caregiving. They can involve a specific type of program or therapy, such as a social skills group or CBT group. They can also be specific to a particular population or community, such as teens or LGBTQ.

Support groups, like Alcoholics Anonymous, also focus on a specific issue, but are typically led by members with lived experiences and are less structured than therapy groups. Most therapy groups will meet for a fixed length of time with a consistent group of members, while many support groups meet for an indefinite period of time with members coming and going.

What are the benefits of group therapy?

Support groups help connect people with shared challenges or physical and mental health conditions. In a group setting, participants can receive support and feedback from peers and can acquire new skills, strategies and perspectives by listening to one another. Discussing your experience with someone who also has a cancer diagnosis, or whose son also struggles with addiction, for example, can help you feel less alone, reduce distress, find empathy and connection, and learn practical or medical information that has helped others. Group therapy can also be a more affordable option than individual therapy and just as effective.

Is group therapy as effective as individual therapy?

Support groups can be deeply valuable for both emotional support and/or treatment outcomes. It’s difficult to make a blanket statement on efficacy due to the many different types of support groups and conditions treated, but group therapy has been found to be just as effective as individual therapy in establishing long-term abstinence for conditions such as substance abuse, addiction and alcohol abuse.

How much does group therapy cost?

Group counseling is typically less expensive than individual counseling, with each session costing on average between $60 to $75. Meanwhile, individual therapy sessions can run anywhere from $100 to $200 and up, even after insurance. It is possible to find low-cost group therapy options and many therapists offer group sessions free of charge.

Does insurance cover group therapy?

As with individual therapy, many insurance companies do offer coverage for group therapy sessions. However, the coverage varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider. Individuals are encouraged to check with their insurance providers to verify coverage.

How long does group therapy last?

The length of a support group session is often one hour but can fall anywhere between 45 minutes and two hours. The amount of time that people remain in a support group varies based on their specific needs and goals and the type of therapy. Some individuals may seek a shorter-term group, such as a bereavement group, that may last between six and 20 weeks. Some may seek a longer-term group that lasts for a year or indefinitely.

What are the limitations of support groups?

Support groups have many benefits, but there are a few limitations as well. Support groups do not constitute formal therapeutic or medical treatment, and are not run by licensed mental health professionals, so some people may opt for group therapy or individual therapy instead. Additionally, support groups can depend on the other participants, so a disruptive individual has the potential to mar the group dynamic, and the anecdotal information shared may sometimes be unhelpful or inaccurate. Because it is a group setting, confidentiality can be more difficult to guard and participants receive less personalized attention than they would in an individual therapy session.
