I have been in private practice for over 40 years. I tend to be warm, interactive and empathic with my clients as I believe a successful outcome is based on positive regard and trust between client and therapist. I am Humanistic and client centered in my approach, I believe that therapy is an ideal means to fully imagine one's potential and vision for a healthy, happy, and productive future however that is defined by the client.
The adult DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) skills group is a structured, supportive environment where individuals learn and practice key skills to manage emotions, improve relationships, and reduce impulsive behaviors. The group focuses on four core DBT modules: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Participants engage in group discussions, role-playing, and homework assignments to apply these skills in real life. Facilitated by trained therapists, the group fosters a non-judgmental atmosphere, encouraging participants to share experiences and support each other in their therapeutic journey, ultimately building resilience and coping strategies for challenging situations.

www.mindymjensen.com Most People explore therapy when they are aware they want more out of life. Therapy is a process of examining wants and behaviors, and establishing a course to achieve those goals more effectively. I work with people in individual and group psychotherapy. I also work with couples with a co-therapist, allowing each client to feel like they have an advocate in the room. This helps the couple identify, negotiate and achieve their goals whether individually or collectively.
In our close-knit men’s group, we weave bonds that defy time. We’re more than just allies; we’re soul navigators. Together, we explore the depths—the raw, unfiltered conversations that carve lasting grooves in our hearts. Our mission? To lift each other, to hold space for vulnerability, and to build relationships that echo across years. Welcome to a sanctuary where authenticity reigns and lasting connections find their home!

Many of my clients have been there… trying to find the right therapist and questioning if they can be brave enough to make the first appointment . Maybe you are trying to find the right fit, maybe you are questioning if it is worth it. To those struggling with the multitudes of issues life can throw at all of us-I am here for you! Together we will uncover your power and courage to know that you can do difficult things. I help motivate my clients to keep going despite the challenges. I work with individuals, couples, and groups. My style is open, encouraging, compassionate, challenging, and fun.
The groups I run are all called Interpersonal Process Groups. This means that what brings people to my groups is interest and desire in further understanding and growing in how we relate to others. And the goal of the group is to do this in what is called the “here and now” process, or rather, understand ourselves in relation to others as we relate to the other members in the group.

Many of us face difficult times in our lives, which may lead us to seek out help from others. I believe that psychotherapy can facilitate gaining a better understanding of ourselves, helping you to become more resilient and improve your sense of self. Those who engage in therapy often find that as a result they are able to live more open, genuine, and fulfilling lives.
Embarking on the recovery journey can be a scary experience, and it is important to know you're not alone. This group is designed to give you a space to connect to others who are new to recovery, develop realistic expectations about what this process holds, and work to increase and sustain motivation to continue your journey. Each session will start with a topic related to recovery, which could include broad themes or specific skills to support your process, and will then open up for group discussion where members can share their thoughts and feelings.

I enjoy working with individuals of all genders and ages, though I particularly enjoy working with older adolescents (14+) and young adults as they navigate the more transitional stages of life. I use a person-centered approach to therapy that allows my clients to be their own experts, and to use their own understanding of their experiences as a baseline for their healing. I also integrate relational therapy techniques, supporting clients in building their sense of self and autonomy, while also developing patience with and trust in their relationships with others.
This is a psychotherapy group which consists of up to 8 highly motivated members with a variety of issues who are engaged in learning about themselves and improving their lives.

I have been a practicing psychotherapist in the metropolitan area for the past 25 years. I received my B.A. from the University of Virginia and MSW from Catholic University. Emotional distress, as uncomfortable as it is, represents not only an opportunity to heal, but a chance to grow. It can be a chance to discover how to be effective at reaching one's objectives and achieving fulfillment, whether it be emotional, relational, or professional. My aim is to assist in this process.
This Zoom-based online therapy group, led from an interpersonal process perspective, aims to create a warm, welcoming space in which to connect and recharge during difficult times. Members will support each other and will learn ways to develop deep, authentic relationships both in group and with loved ones outside of the group. Obstacles to connection like avoidance of vulnerability, past experiences of loss or trauma, and fears of judgment and criticism will be explored. ***Participants must be DC or Virginia residents who are physically in DC or VA during group sessions.***

Hello! Thank you for visiting my page and for considering me for your mental health needs. I am a licensed clinical psychologist in DC and Virginia. Antiracist and identity-affirming practice is very important to me. I help clients navigate mood-related concerns (e.g., anxiety and depression), relationship issues, identity conflicts, and family of origin issues, among others. Seeking out mental health services requires courage and a desire to change. I try to honor this courage by working hard to be present, warm, and responsive every time we meet. Accelerated experiential dynamic psychotherapy (AEDP) informs my work.

It can be difficult to find the "right" therapist. Many clients are nervous about what therapy entails and wonder if counseling will really help them. Although this is completely normal, it shouldn't get in the way of finding the support you deserve. I have found success helping clients navigate relational and professional difficulties. Sometimes these problems come from an identifiable stressor (such as trauma), and other times are more nebulous. I am committed to helping you better understand yourself and create long-lasting change.
We are forming the spring group right now. If you're in your 20-30's and you've experienced the death of a parent, this group will help you process your grief in the company of two psychotherapists and peers who get what you're going through. Topics include reducing guilt and anxiety, defining grief, finding commmunity, exploring forgiveness and meaning-making. Learn more on our website: www.sarahmoorelpc.com or email jane@sarahmoorelpc.com. This group is virtual and is open to anyone located in Virginia. This group runs twice annually in the spring and fall.

Do you have difficulties being vulnerable, or talking about your personal issues, mood/anxiety symptoms, or feelings with your friends or family? Do you have difficulties in your relationships, or want to improve how you relate to others? Are you interested in becoming a more authentic, genuine version of yourself? Are you interested in a therapy experience that challenges you to think deeply about how you think and feel when relating to other people? If so, this group may be for you! Please contact me for more information.

Our personal difficulties are often a "Catch 22," -- comfortable, familiar patterns of behavior inadvertently keep us in unhealthy/unsatisfactory circumstances or relationships. As your therapist, I aim to help you understand your current problems in the context of your unique life experiences, allowing you to develop insight into how your difficulties developed while growing in ways that get you 'unstuck.' I do this by facilitating conversations about your interpersonal relationships (past and present); early life experiences; what you are thinking and feeling (or may be preventing yourself from feeling); and how you communicate your thoughts, feelings, and needs with others.
This group will: -Provide a safe place to discuss OCD-related issues with your peers. -Give you a place to share your experiences without fear of judgment. -Foster community. -Allow you to give and receive support while you deal with OCD, directly and indirectly. -Give you the opportunity to practice intervention strategies during group sessions. Although there is no requirement that group members be in individual therapy, this is strongly recommended.

FAQs - About Group Therapy and Support Groups
How can I find a support group in 22209?
Search for nearby support groups by inputting your city, zip code, or the name of the group into the search bar. From there, you can filter to find a group that suits your needs, whether you are looking for support for a teenager, a group that focuses on a specific issue, such as depression, or a particular program type, such as one geared toward developing social skills. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.
How does group therapy work?
Therapy groups are led by one or more therapists and serve to help people process their experiences and learn from others who understand their challenges firsthand. They can be based on a specific issue, such as addiction, grief, physical illnesses, parenting, and caregiving. They can involve a specific type of program or therapy, such as a social skills group or CBT group. They can also be specific to a particular population or community, such as teens or LGBTQ.
Support groups, like Alcoholics Anonymous, also focus on a specific issue, but are typically led by members with lived experiences and are less structured than therapy groups. Most therapy groups will meet for a fixed length of time with a consistent group of members, while many support groups meet for an indefinite period of time with members coming and going.
What are the benefits of group therapy?
Support groups help connect people with shared challenges or physical and mental health conditions. In a group setting, participants can receive support and feedback from peers and can acquire new skills, strategies and perspectives by listening to one another. Discussing your experience with someone who also has a cancer diagnosis, or whose son also struggles with addiction, for example, can help you feel less alone, reduce distress, find empathy and connection, and learn practical or medical information that has helped others. Group therapy can also be a more affordable option than individual therapy and just as effective.
Is group therapy as effective as individual therapy?
Support groups can be deeply valuable for both emotional support and/or treatment outcomes. It’s difficult to make a blanket statement on efficacy due to the many different types of support groups and conditions treated, but group therapy has been found to be just as effective as individual therapy in establishing long-term abstinence for conditions such as substance abuse, addiction and alcohol abuse.
How much does group therapy cost?
Group counseling is typically less expensive than individual counseling, with each session costing on average between $60 to $75. Meanwhile, individual therapy sessions can run anywhere from $100 to $200 and up, even after insurance. It is possible to find low-cost group therapy options and many therapists offer group sessions free of charge.
Does insurance cover group therapy?
As with individual therapy, many insurance companies do offer coverage for group therapy sessions. However, the coverage varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider. Individuals are encouraged to check with their insurance providers to verify coverage.
How long does group therapy last?
The length of a support group session is often one hour but can fall anywhere between 45 minutes and two hours. The amount of time that people remain in a support group varies based on their specific needs and goals and the type of therapy. Some individuals may seek a shorter-term group, such as a bereavement group, that may last between six and 20 weeks. Some may seek a longer-term group that lasts for a year or indefinitely.
What are the limitations of support groups?
Support groups have many benefits, but there are a few limitations as well. Support groups do not constitute formal therapeutic or medical treatment, and are not run by licensed mental health professionals, so some people may opt for group therapy or individual therapy instead. Additionally, support groups can depend on the other participants, so a disruptive individual has the potential to mar the group dynamic, and the anecdotal information shared may sometimes be unhelpful or inaccurate. Because it is a group setting, confidentiality can be more difficult to guard and participants receive less personalized attention than they would in an individual therapy session.
