Focus will be on communicating a full range of emotions to one another, giving and receiving feedback, learning to take in what lands while letting go of what doesn't. We will drop our old stories of who we aren't and who we can't be, and dissolve the projections we place over those who come into our lives. We will hold one another accountable through weekly self-created challenges that further us on our individual missions in the world. Breath work and meditations will allow participants to become clearer, more embodied, and beyond.

I am here for you as a gentle, patient, and empathic presence. We will figure this out together. Over the years I have cultivated my own holistic approach that is caring and inclusive. My scope of healing is larger in order to address the root causes of anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, conflict, and help navigate the intersectionality of the many unhealthy systems we are affected by in our troubled world.

Currently I am only accepting new patients interested in KAP work. Please send inquiries via email. I am a Columbia-trained psychiatrist and psychotherapist licensed in NY, NJ, and CT. I offer a warm, holistic approach to mental health care. My two areas of focus are psychotherapy (for individuals or couples) and integrative psychiatry. In talk therapy, I can help you understand yourself better and work on making meaningful change. When medications are recommended, I combine traditional psychiatric approaches with integrative approaches like nutritional supplementation, mind-body medicine, and healthy lifestyle habits.

Welcome! I am a clinical psychologist and a TA psychotherapist (transactional analysis). I work with a variety of psychological challenges but I am specialized in working with individuals struggling with eating disorders (bulimia nervosa, anorexia nervosa, binge-eating disorder). The individuals I work with often come to therapy having tried many behavioral interventions that brought little change (being more disciplined with their diet, exercising more/less, creating plans etc.).

This is a small group. We welcome new members. The group is continuously developing how they work together: It is my belief that for individuals to get help in groups, they need to create an environment in which the members speak thoughtfully and listen attentively with each other. In this way, they learn how to build relationships with others. I believe that many personal problems - anxieties, depression - are solved when we get better at relationship building. Please call for more information.

We specialize in depression & anxiety, eating dIsorders, alcohol issues or opioid problems, using natural techniques when possible, short CBT/DBT sessions, plus psychopharmacology or Suboxone as needed. We prescribe safe medications that make it easier to avoid binge eating or alcohol overuse or opioid misuse. We know that the 12 step all-or-nothing approach is not for everyone, so we support harm reduction or abstinence or the Sinclair approach. We avoid anti-depressants w side effects—such as weight gain or sexual dysfunction— and teach natural methods to minimize habit forming anti-anxiety meds.

Creative people can end distress-without losing creativity! I start with a comprehensive evaluation and "differential diagnosis." I customize treatment to your needs, combining natural techniques, psychopharmacology, brief CBT, arts-based or horticulture therapy, collaboration with other therapists, as needed. We review current concerns, medical, cultural, family, interpersonal, educational, vocational and substance histories, before identifying helpful-or harmful--past treatments, avoiding whatever harmed. I recognize "medical mimics" of mental symptoms, and medication side effects—and recommend natural solutions whenever possible.

This pandemic has causes so much uncertainty and robbed us of a sense of control. For some, when we feel out of control, we might fixate on body-related insecurities or ways of finding control through food/exercise. If this rings true for you, my Zoom group therapy could give you an outlet and a source of support. I am limiting the group size to 6-8 individuals and will start in early/mid June. *This is a group for cis/trans women and non-binary individuals only.*

My approach is referred to as "integrationist;" incorporating aspects of psychodynamic, cognitive, and mindfulness therapy. I treat difficulties associated with mood, anxiety, trauma, addiction and ADHD, as well as more basic problems in living (i.e. relationship, employment). I welcome clients from all backgrounds, cultures, ethnicities, sexual preference and genders.

In DBT, one of our goals is for you to learn and develop skills to increase your ability to take control your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. These skills are taught in an educational group format, much like a classroom setting. These groups meet weekly for 90 minutes, and we offer several groups to accommodate scheduling needs as well as to maintain smaller group sizes. Please note that while we welcome clients who are interested only in participating in our DBT skills training groups, all group members must also have an individual therapist even if that therapist is not at NYCBT.

If you're seeking therapy, chances are that you're looking for a change or to find ways to cope with your struggles. My approach in therapy is to do my best to understand you and help you toward healing and growth. I've found one of the most powerful things people gain from therapy is recognizing that you're not alone and that change is possible. I have training and experience working with individuals and couples of various identities, backgrounds, and cultures and understand the importance of not having your experiences feel dismissed. I also run a group therapy for those looking to find support through community.

Illness is always disruptive. When the illness lingers, when it devolves into a frightening pattern of relapse and remission, with intrusive, isolating, and debilitating symptoms that interfere with every aspect of your life, it can be devastating. Pervasive uncertainty frequently magnifies ongoing physical distress and the experiences of ableism (from others and internalized) and gaslighting may further compound suffering. Individual and group therapy, focused on your lived-experience, provides a safe and supportive environment to explore the trauma of developing Long COVID and/or ME/CFS and on finding individually useful strategies for coping, surviving and thriving.

No matter how fortunate you may be, still human life is difficult. Despite your best efforts, at times life's stresses can be too much: you may be overwhelmed. Hurt, fear, guilt, anger, shame, grief: feeling bad can alert you to where the trouble lies, or add to your emotional burdens. Confusion, isolation, loneliness, restlessness, worry, despair, or addictive attempts to find relief - all of these painful states are attempts to ward off problems or fix what's wrong, but they can also make things worse.

Do you often find the voice of your inner critic to be louder than your own? Are you feeling disconnected from the person you "once" were? As we go through life, our self worth and sense of direction is frequently challenged, leaving us feeling anxious, stressed and lost. The pressure to live up to expectations of being the perfect partner, parent, child, friend or employee, often causes us to lose sight of our strengths and holds us back. Through our therapeutic work, I aim to help each person rediscover themselves, and grow a sense of self compassion to create long lasting changes!

Systemic Constellation Therapy is a psychotherapeutic approach that looks at any psychological – mental, emotional, relational, behavioral – issue as a systemic phenomenon. It is a uniquely effective technique to understand not only the deeper dynamics of an individual person, but those of couples, families, businesses and organizations as well. Systemic Family Constellation Therapy can reveal unconscious family dynamics and transgenerational influences with a unique plasticity and a distinct emotional impact leading to profound insights and cathartic experiences. FAQs - About Group Therapy and Support Groups

How can I find a support group in 10012?

Search for nearby support groups by inputting your city, zip code, or the name of the group into the search bar. From there, you can filter to find a group that suits your needs, whether you are looking for support for a teenager, a group that focuses on a specific issue, such as depression, or a particular program type, such as one geared toward developing social skills. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

How does group therapy work?

Therapy groups are led by one or more therapists and serve to help people process their experiences and learn from others who understand their challenges firsthand. They can be based on a specific issue, such as addiction, grief, physical illnesses, parenting, and caregiving. They can involve a specific type of program or therapy, such as a social skills group or CBT group. They can also be specific to a particular population or community, such as teens or LGBTQ.

Support groups, like Alcoholics Anonymous, also focus on a specific issue, but are typically led by members with lived experiences and are less structured than therapy groups. Most therapy groups will meet for a fixed length of time with a consistent group of members, while many support groups meet for an indefinite period of time with members coming and going.

What are the benefits of group therapy?

Support groups help connect people with shared challenges or physical and mental health conditions. In a group setting, participants can receive support and feedback from peers and can acquire new skills, strategies and perspectives by listening to one another. Discussing your experience with someone who also has a cancer diagnosis, or whose son also struggles with addiction, for example, can help you feel less alone, reduce distress, find empathy and connection, and learn practical or medical information that has helped others. Group therapy can also be a more affordable option than individual therapy and just as effective.

Is group therapy as effective as individual therapy?

Support groups can be deeply valuable for both emotional support and/or treatment outcomes. It’s difficult to make a blanket statement on efficacy due to the many different types of support groups and conditions treated, but group therapy has been found to be just as effective as individual therapy in establishing long-term abstinence for conditions such as substance abuse, addiction and alcohol abuse.

How much does group therapy cost?

Group counseling is typically less expensive than individual counseling, with each session costing on average between $60 to $75. Meanwhile, individual therapy sessions can run anywhere from $100 to $200 and up, even after insurance. It is possible to find low-cost group therapy options and many therapists offer group sessions free of charge.

Does insurance cover group therapy?

As with individual therapy, many insurance companies do offer coverage for group therapy sessions. However, the coverage varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider. Individuals are encouraged to check with their insurance providers to verify coverage.

How long does group therapy last?

The length of a support group session is often one hour but can fall anywhere between 45 minutes and two hours. The amount of time that people remain in a support group varies based on their specific needs and goals and the type of therapy. Some individuals may seek a shorter-term group, such as a bereavement group, that may last between six and 20 weeks. Some may seek a longer-term group that lasts for a year or indefinitely.

What are the limitations of support groups?

Support groups have many benefits, but there are a few limitations as well. Support groups do not constitute formal therapeutic or medical treatment, and are not run by licensed mental health professionals, so some people may opt for group therapy or individual therapy instead. Additionally, support groups can depend on the other participants, so a disruptive individual has the potential to mar the group dynamic, and the anecdotal information shared may sometimes be unhelpful or inaccurate. Because it is a group setting, confidentiality can be more difficult to guard and participants receive less personalized attention than they would in an individual therapy session.
