Support Groups in 04073

We as humans are often taught to hide who we are and to ignore our emotions for the comfort of others. Horses, on the other hand, live in the moment as their most authentic and unapologetic selves. From them, we can learn to do the same and grow in areas of vulnerability, emotional connection, boundaries, and self-empowerment. Please note that while attendance every week is not required, new group members are asked to commit to six sessions in the first three months. This group is for adults across the entire gender spectrum.

EMERGE is a counseling group for people who have lost their sense of self in their relationships with others. Not being authentic with others can lead to depression over not being who you wanted to be in the past or anxiety about who you will be in the future. By gaining a better understanding of who you really are you can become more confident in the decisions you make each day and the way you communicate who you are and what you think to others. Join a small group of serious people like yourself who want to EMERGE as yourself.

Is your life turning out the way you planned? Are your personal relationships succeeding? Are you finding the right career for you? Do people know the real you? Too often we lose track of how we exist each day. Depression over past mistakes or anxiety about what might happen in the future prevent us from being who we really want to be in the present. The goal of counseling is to help you develop a better relationship with your 'self' in order to improve your relationships with others. Check out my video on YouTube to learn more about my approach.

My practice is full and I have limited waitlist spots available. My hope for therapy is to create an active, collaborative relationship where clients define their own goals and we work together using our individual and shared knowledge and strengths to find the best path forward. I emphasize open communication, mental and emotional flexibility, identities as strengths, and understanding processes rather than finding static solutions. I often focus on helping clients connect with their values and my work is grounded in the reality that our contexts (many of which we have not chosen) have a significant impact on our lives.

If I were looking for a therapist; I'd be hunting for the person that would listen & reflect on what they heard; offer advice that aligned with the problems presented, and challenge me to expand my perspective. I would want them to respect my beliefs and values; and provide authentic, life-giving examples to apply to my situation - using layman's terms and not their medical terminology vocabulary; but through their heart. Lastly, they would have to be funny and make me laugh through my pain. If that's you, reach out to me and we'll chat to determine if we align and could work well together!

Mindfulness/meditation training program is offered specifically for students and young adults. Skills taught can be helpful at many times, e.g., just before a high pressure exam or a big game, when you're too groggy to study, when you're feeling overly irritable or angry, or when your mind is spinning with unhelpful thoughts. Attendance at all four sessions and pre-registration are required. Consider a four-week experiment with your mind...it could change your life!

Full/Waitlist - I don't provide new client consultation, we start with an intake appointment. I'm a Gestalt & Certified Gottman Therapist, specialized in couples therapy. I help individuals & couples explore barriers to connection, processing underlying trauma/loss. Together, we seek insight on issues related to boundaries, dishonesty, anger, confidence, culture, sexuality, depression, anxiety, etc. I provide a nonjudgmental space for open communication so we can focus on deeper unmet needs. It's each individual's choice to lean into difficulty to create meaning and intimacy, and I want to help you do this in healthy ways.

Life threatening experiences sometimes affect us long after the danger has passed. If you find yourself moving through the world in fear, avoiding situations that remind you, even remotely, of the past, EMDR can help. EMDR addresses the cycle of triggering and avoidance that can be so painful and disruptive. The typical course of EMDR is 1-10 sessions. It may sound unlikely that such powerful memories can soften and lose their hold in just a few sessions. But that is what you can expect from EMDR. It is why EMDR is the treatment of choice for PTSD.

Finding a safe place to share our pain and work together in healing ways is essential. Using conversation, meditation and the arts we’ll express our fears about the crisis. What does it mean to be female at this turning point? We will find potent, safe, and encouraging ways to share and hold experiences and feelings, allowing us to step into our rightful roles as healers, nurturers, mothers, and grandmothers, leading the way forward.

This group is about identifying ways to add healthier options into everyday life, starting small, building momentum, and creating success. FAQs - About Group Therapy and Support Groups

How can I find a support group in 04073?

Search for nearby support groups by inputting your city, zip code, or the name of the group into the search bar. From there, you can filter to find a group that suits your needs, whether you are looking for support for a teenager, a group that focuses on a specific issue, such as depression, or a particular program type, such as one geared toward developing social skills. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

How does group therapy work?

Therapy groups are led by one or more therapists and serve to help people process their experiences and learn from others who understand their challenges firsthand. They can be based on a specific issue, such as addiction, grief, physical illnesses, parenting, and caregiving. They can involve a specific type of program or therapy, such as a social skills group or CBT group. They can also be specific to a particular population or community, such as teens or LGBTQ.

Support groups, like Alcoholics Anonymous, also focus on a specific issue, but are typically led by members with lived experiences and are less structured than therapy groups. Most therapy groups will meet for a fixed length of time with a consistent group of members, while many support groups meet for an indefinite period of time with members coming and going.

What are the benefits of group therapy?

Support groups help connect people with shared challenges or physical and mental health conditions. In a group setting, participants can receive support and feedback from peers and can acquire new skills, strategies and perspectives by listening to one another. Discussing your experience with someone who also has a cancer diagnosis, or whose son also struggles with addiction, for example, can help you feel less alone, reduce distress, find empathy and connection, and learn practical or medical information that has helped others. Group therapy can also be a more affordable option than individual therapy and just as effective.

Is group therapy as effective as individual therapy?

Support groups can be deeply valuable for both emotional support and/or treatment outcomes. It’s difficult to make a blanket statement on efficacy due to the many different types of support groups and conditions treated, but group therapy has been found to be just as effective as individual therapy in establishing long-term abstinence for conditions such as substance abuse, addiction and alcohol abuse.

How much does group therapy cost?

Group counseling is typically less expensive than individual counseling, with each session costing on average between $60 to $75. Meanwhile, individual therapy sessions can run anywhere from $100 to $200 and up, even after insurance. It is possible to find low-cost group therapy options and many therapists offer group sessions free of charge.

Does insurance cover group therapy?

As with individual therapy, many insurance companies do offer coverage for group therapy sessions. However, the coverage varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider. Individuals are encouraged to check with their insurance providers to verify coverage.

How long does group therapy last?

The length of a support group session is often one hour but can fall anywhere between 45 minutes and two hours. The amount of time that people remain in a support group varies based on their specific needs and goals and the type of therapy. Some individuals may seek a shorter-term group, such as a bereavement group, that may last between six and 20 weeks. Some may seek a longer-term group that lasts for a year or indefinitely.

What are the limitations of support groups?

Support groups have many benefits, but there are a few limitations as well. Support groups do not constitute formal therapeutic or medical treatment, and are not run by licensed mental health professionals, so some people may opt for group therapy or individual therapy instead. Additionally, support groups can depend on the other participants, so a disruptive individual has the potential to mar the group dynamic, and the anecdotal information shared may sometimes be unhelpful or inaccurate. Because it is a group setting, confidentiality can be more difficult to guard and participants receive less personalized attention than they would in an individual therapy session.
