* Frustration,Anger & Problem-Solving Coping Group

This group provides opportunities for children to learn coping skills to remain calm, self-soothe, and prevent temper implosions and explosions. The program begins by defining what anger is from a neurological perspective (taught at the developmental level of the participants). It then teaches CBT inspired coping skills lessons that manage frustration and prevent anger from taking over. Assertiveness and problem-solving skills are taught as preventive methods to further avoid melt-down behaviors. Participants then practice these skills with one another.

* Social Cognition-Focused Social Skills Groups

A traditional social skills group, we teach Theory-of-Mind, perspective-taking, reading social cues, and the hidden rules of socialization. From there, the group works on critical interaction skills such as assertiveness, flexibility, and compromise. The goal is for participants to successfully initiate & sustain developmentally appropriate play or conversation (& discover how to make and keep friends)! A reward system & social coaching is provided in our ultra-positive skills training approach for children under the age of 12. Teen groups often have group parties instead of prizes. Adolescents are eligible to attend weekend social outings in our Connections Social Club.

* Anxiety-Focused Social Skills Groups

These groups help the anxious, excessively shy, or reluctant child learn how to manage feelings in order to join in and sustain successful social interactions. Anxiety triggers an impulse to avoid or withdraw, so participants learn the inner workings of anxiety. Most importantly, the group provides CBT inspired coping skills to take control over anxiety as well as social skills around initiating and sustaining conversation or play
