Tara Well Ph.D.

Dr. Tara Well is an associate professor of psychology at Barnard College of Columbia University where she developed the mirror-based meditation called “a revelation” in the New York Times.

Her research on motivation, perception, and cognition has been funded by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute of Mental Health, and published in the top psychology journals.

In her TEDx Talk, “What Mirror Meditation Can Teach You,” Dr. Tara Well explains how mirrors can awaken self-compassion, help us manage our emotions, and improve our face-to-face communication, which is vital for managing stress and staying emotional connected to ourselves and to others in the age of increasing reliance on digital technology.

As an expert on self-reflection, self-awareness, body-image, self-compassion, narcissism, emotional resilience, meditation, and leadership, Dr. Tara Well has been quoted in The New York Times, NBC News, Boston Globe, Bloomberg, Forbes, INC, Shape, Allure, O magazine, and many other media publications.

As a frequent keynote speaker, Tara loves to share the latest research on how to use self-reflection to develop self-compassion, emotional resilience, and improve relationships. She teaches mirror meditation to individuals worldwide and presents workshops at private gatherings, retreat centers and in work settings.

Dr. Tara Well partners with major companies in the health and beauty industry and works with national and international organizations. Recent projects include promoting positive body image in girls and women, using mirror meditation for stress-management and emotional resilience, and the role of attention and motivation in mindful media consumption.
