Laurie Mintz Ph.D.
Dr. Laurie Mintz is an author, therapist, and professor whose life’s work has been committed to helping people live more authentic, meaningful, and joyful lives through the art and science of psychology.
Dr. Mintz is the author of two popular and highly acclaimed books—both written with the aim of empowering women sexually: Becoming Cliterate: Why Orgasm Equality Matters and How to Get it (HarperOne, 2017) and A Tired Woman’s Guide to Passionate Sex: Reclaim Your Desire and Reignite Your Relationship (Adams Media, 2009).
As a tenured Professor at the University of Florida, Dr. Mintz teaches the Psychology of Human Sexuality to hundreds of undergraduate students each year. She also teaches and mentors graduate students, helping them find their own niche as psychologists. Dr. Mintz has published over 50 research articles in academic journals and six chapters in academic books. A focus of her recent resarch has been on evaluating the effectivness of self-help books, including her own; on this site, you can find four published studies demonstrating that her first book, A Tired Woman's Guide to Passionate Sex, increases sexual desire and othe aspects of sexual functioning (e.g., arousal, satisfction) among women who read it. Studies evaluating the effectiveness of her most recent book, Becoming Cliterate, are underway.
For over 30 years, Dr. Mintz has also maintained a small private practice, working with both individuals and couples. One of her greatest honors is supporting her clients during difficult times, as well as helping them make positive changes and reach life goals.
Dr. Mintz has received numerous professional and teaching awards, and is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, indicating that her work has has a significant, positive influence on the field of psychology.
