Deborah J. Cohan, Ph.D.

Deborah J. Cohan, Ph.D., is a professor of sociology at the University of South Carolina-Beaufort. She publishes and speaks extensively on domestic violence and sexual assault, gender and sexuality, intimate relationships, body image, race, and issues related to higher education. She also serves as an expert consultant in legal cases involving sexual violence and harassment. In addition to her scholarly research, Cohan writes creative nonfiction and is the author of Welcome to Wherever We Are: A Memoir of Abuse and Caregiving, which will be out next year with Rutgers University Press. Cohan is at work on a book about and for college students and their parents and another book about what is involved and what is at stake in teaching about intimacy and violence on the college level. Please contact Deborah Cohan for speaking engagements on any of the topics listed and for her special workshops related to self care, work/life balance and creativity.
