Deborah J. Cohan, Ph.D.

Deborah J. Cohan, Ph.D., is a professor of sociology at the University of South Carolina-Beaufort. She has published and spoken extensively on domestic violence and sexual assault, gender and sexuality, intimate relationships, body image, and race. She also serves as an expert consultant in legal cases involving sexual violence and harassment. 

In addition to her scholarly research, Cohan writes creative nonfiction. Her stories about caregiving, dementia, and abuse have been featured in several publications. Cohan is at work on a second book about what is involved and what is at stake in teaching about intimacy and violence on the college level.
