Martha B. Koo, M.D., FASAM, LFAPA, FCTMSS, completed her undergraduate studies at Princeton University, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude, and her medical training at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, where she earned membership to the AOA and Sigma Xi Society for academic excellence. She obtained her psychiatry residency training at the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Institute at UCLA and her subsequent psychoanalytic training at the New Center for Psychoanalysis.
Koo is Board-Certified in Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine. She is also CIIS-certified in psychedelic-assisted therapy and a Lykos research adherence rater. For over 28 years, Koo has enjoyed her private practice, providing outpatient psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, and pharmacological treatment for individuals, couples, and families.
A pioneer in the development and application of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), Koo opened the South Bay TMS Therapy Center in 2009. She is certified in the application of Neurostar, Brainsway, MagVenture rTMS, and Magnetic E-Resonance TMS therapies. South Bay TMS evolved into the Neuro Wellness Spa (NWS), where Koo is the Chief Medical Officer. NWS is an in-network psychiatry practice with nine outpatient clinics across the greater LA area that offer medication management along with TMS and Magnetic E-Resonance therapy for treatment-resistant mental illness.
Koo is also the Chief Medical Officer at Clear Behavioral Health, which offers a full continuum of care from residential detox to partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient treatment for individuals struggling with mental health, addiction, and dual diagnoses at multiple sites in the greater LA area.
Additionally, Koo is President of the Clinical TMS Society, on the Board of Directors of the CTMSS and of FACTMS, and on the Board of Directors of the Beach Cities Health District. Koo is a member of the American Psychiatric Association (Life Fellow), the New Center for Psychoanalysis, the Clinical TMS Society (Fellow), the American Society of Addiction Medicine, the American Society of Ketamine Physicians, the Psychedelic Medicine Association, the California Psychiatric Society, and the Southern California Psychiatric Society (Distinguished Fellow).
