About

Emily C. Willroth, Ph.D., is a social, personality, and health psychologist. She explores how psychological factors, such as our personalities, our social networks, and how happy we are, are related to our physical health and longevity. Her research seeks to answer questions such as “Are happy people healthier?” and “How do people’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors ‘get under the skin’ to influence their risk for diseases like Alzheimer’s?”

Emily received her Ph.D. in Social-Personality Psychology from UC Berkeley and her M.A. from the College of William & Mary. She is currently a postdoctoral research scholar at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Emily’s research is funded by the National Institutes of Health and her work has been published in top academic journals, including Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Emotion, and Psychosomatic Medicine.

In her blog, Emily shares what we know — and what we don’t yet know — about health, happiness, and the connection between the two.
