Darren J. Edwards Ph.D.
Darren J. Edwards, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor at Swansea University in the Department of Public Health, Policy, and Social Sciences. He completed his Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology at Swansea University in 2010 and is a Chartered Health Psychologist registered with the British Psychological Society (BPS).
Dr Edwards’ academic interests span a wide range of interdisciplinary areas, exploring intersections between philosophy, health, cognitive science, mathematics, and evolution. In the field of human behavior, he has developed original evolutionary game-theoretical and quantum mechanical accounts of consciousness, which offer novel insights into the evolution of artificial intelligence and the emergence of prosocial behavior. His work also examines the broader societal implications of these theories, particularly in relation to ethics, governance, and human flourishing.
He has recently contributed to policy briefs for the Welsh Government in collaboration with the National Health Service (NHS), addressing key challenges at the intersection of health and AI. Dr Edwards is the co-editor of several academic volumes, including The Textbook of Health and Social Care (SAGE), Introduction to Visualization Psychology (Springer, 2023), and Broadening the Scope of Wellbeing Science: Multidisciplinary and Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Human Flourishing and Wellbeing (Palgrave Macmillan, 2022). These works reflect his commitment to advancing applied, multidisciplinary scholarship across public health, psychology, and technological ethics.
