I was very interested about the before and after mental health care for people seeking bariatric surgery. I know you said that sometimes patients receive a psychological evaluation, but there is no uniform way to go about this. Do you think there should be a uniform procedure? And if so, what do you think would qualify as contraindicators to getting surgery?
Recently, there has been a media buzz surrounding a study by the American Journal of Medicine that found a rate of suicide in the bariatric surgery population that is higher than that of the general population. Do you have any ideas as to why this would be? Additionally, do you think some sort of aftercare program would help lower the incident of suicide?
