if the guy that is upset is wrong? really wrong? he's suffering ok . But is suffering beacuse a twisted thought. I validate his o her emotion to calm him down and than? Doing that i m sayng you are right, go head or if I'm not sayng that, how could i say afterward " look you were wrong, what you did was just really really wrong. I don't get the point of all this technique. I calm him down in that moment, but validating his behavoiur, probably really wrong.
