Why are so many people drawn to conspiracy theories in times of crisis?

That is really interesting that the effect was moderated by people's learning preferences ("visual learners" ate more). Given that learning styles don't exist, is this evidence of the real impact of learning preferences on the way we navigate the world? Or is this somehow evidence for learning styles that hasn't been seen before?
