I have a friend who suffers from GAD and does such a good job knocking out his anxiety through meditation, he cannot react properly to danger. He denies problems and puts his head in the sand. Even when he is able to identify a problem and tell his friends the warning signs, and receive good advice, he seems to be unable to make a sensible choice and get away. It's as if his "fight or flight" reaction has been disabled.
