Psychoanalytic zealots would have us believe the whole world operates according to their failed theories. Not so. Many, if not most, methods of psychotherapy incorporate no reference to mythical concepts like transference and counter-transference. Dr Reidbord's misguided attempts to foist off these principles far from the couch as central to psychiatry only serve to further diminish the credibility of the specialty.

To paraphrase neurologist Sigmund Freud, "Sometimes a feeling is just a feeling."
