Why are so many people drawn to conspiracy theories in times of crisis?

The Social infertility term sounds odd to me. That sounds like if woman could reproduce asexually and the society is causing them to be infertile. In this cases, the women are not infertile, simply women cannot reproduce by themselves, they need a man and if she doesn't have a partner I doubt it is because society is preventing her from having a partner. I just don't see the logic of the term.
