Charissa, thank you for these thoughtful and heartfelt comments. I'm reminded of an experience I had a couple of years ago. I was invited to speak to a convention of high school psychology teachers. My talk was on various ways to promote critical thought and discussion about controversial psychological ideas. After the talk some of the teachers told me how much they wished they could do in their classes the kinds of things I was talking about. "We can't," they said, "our job is not to promote thought but to teach the answers to the test. We get evaluated on how well they do on the advanced placement test."
