Hi Matt,
I know you are looking forward to hearing a response from Rebecca but I couldn't help but respond. I hope you don't mind. Your Anxiety needs to be examined by a professional. . . probably the same person who is helping you with medication. But I responded because I had years of anxiety ( after years of therapy and medication) I realized a lot of it had to do with me caring way more about what others & society thought about what I was or was not doing than I actually did. When I began to focus on MYSELF( it may seem selfish but that is what needs to happen to develop the locus of control) I found I was calmer. . .as I developed my interests(regardless of whether it was to "make money") i found what I was good at and what I had to offer in the world. I began to feel more confident and self assured, my anxiety seemed to lessen as I became more in control of my own world(regardless of what others may have wanted or thought) that made me motivated to try more. Don't get me wrong i failed many times. . . .but that is supposed to happen. . .NO ONE is perfect and trial and error is how we learn. . .thus the whole premise of this article. . .free play allows for those practices of trail and error to happen naturally.
Start with baby steps . . find something you enjoy. . take a class. . . read a book. . . when you feel good about that move to something else. . build your mind and spirit. . . .and you will be surprised where it may take you. . .
Be well Matt. . . .
Christine
