I enjoy your post, and wanted to comment on the above observation concerning the college kids who didn't seem to do well in an uncontrolled environment.
I have heard the same about kids first coming to Sudbury Schools from traditional schools. Often times it takes them quite a time to figure our that their education is "finally" in their own hands. For college students, who have experienced more than 18 years of control based "schooling", one semester in likely not enough time to detox from a control based model to one based on freedom.
