Much like the previous comment, I think there is merit to removing the passion and pain from a conversation by having it by email. I was able to break ground with my father by having email conversations that just weren't happening face to face.
That said, while e-conversations took us far, the real finale of those difficult conversations was being able to touch, or look each other in the eye. That human contact can't be replaced.
