A friend wrote me this comment and gave me permission to publish it here in Comments: "Very good information and practical advice. I find, more and more, just how unnerving, sound clutter, even good-sound clutter (music, Terry Gross, etc) is. I want and seek quiet. Even in the car, I choose not to have the radio on. In San Francisco, restaurant reviews usually show a certain number of exploding bombs (1-4) to represent general decibel levels. Amazing how many popular restaurants are in the "too noisy for normal talking" range. To be avoided at all costs!
