Why are so many people drawn to conspiracy theories in times of crisis?

I fixed the blog to use a clearer case--science. But I think we both agree that be it the Sistene Chapel or not (again, mixed evidence on that one), many artists develop the idea but don't paint the entire work, yet no one cites the piece as completed by Michelangelo and John Smith and Stacy Jones. But I agree it's better to use a less controversial example. Thanks for commenting!
