Why are so many people drawn to conspiracy theories in times of crisis?

I just read the dull boring 5 steps to unwhining and find them not at all as healing as whining with my friends. Whining provides a wonderful outlet for pent up frustrations. It also bonds people together as we have a common complaint or ailment or something to dislike together. And whining is an outlet. A way to get rid of what ails you, get it off your chest. And whining is a way to find the humor in what is bugging you. When I whine about nobody here to help me and I must figure out how to take down the blinds by myself and I start to describe the things I've been going through -- it starts to get funny. And then someone googles removing blinds and sends me a tutorial on how to do it. Voila! The problem is solved, we've had a laugh, bonded over it, and we all feel much better.
