Hi Amy...thanks for writing this article about improving communication. I like that 'soft start up' phrase, it captures so well the way to begin communication in the context of feeling cross, hurt or upset.
I think that sometimes it helps to take a moment before speaking with someone. And, that in this moment, you slow things down, acknowledge and label your emotions and validate having them. This can cool your emotions first, before you then choose to say something helpful.
I'm going to use the 'soft start up' approach in both my personal and professional life.
