Nice article, a good overview of the importance of understanding how crucial individual self-worth is to the functionality of the group. I’m British and I have never known so much negative behaviour as I’ve witnessed since the whole Brexit vote was announced. I’ve tried to have discussions with friends on social media and because I disagreed with the things they were posting, they felt very attacked. I wish I’d read this article in 2015, because it took me a long time to realise some of the things you said above, and I have made situations worse as a result.
Unfortunately, people use this knowledge to manipulate those with low self-esteem, as seems to have happened here and also in the US. Hopefully people will read the article and see ways towards mending fences, and trying not to make others feel worse about themselves.
