Don’t disagree with incorporating arts into learning curriculum. But calling reading and writing “textbook” learning that is “rote” and can’t stand on its own without a song or dance—is a falsehood. Reading and writing are basic fundamental “arts”. How about expressing a science lesson with a poem? Meanwhile reading to understand science is foundational and ultimately students must be helped with phonics and learn to read.
