Why are so many people drawn to conspiracy theories in times of crisis?

It is a common human trait to be concerned with what others think of me. However, it should not put you off from doing some really good things, even if you are criticized for it. This is because Swami Vivekanand has said that good things first get rejected and then accepted.
However, it is helpful to keep this thought of what others will think of me if you are about to do something wrong or hurt someone.
The key here is to use this thought in the right way.
