I think people just are interested because it's news. When Bowie recently died I thought, "oh ok, that happened" and then just moved on. Same thing with Frey. And I actually liked their music. When it's someone that I don't like their music it barely even registers. When Robin Williams died it was more surprise because he wasn't very old. None did I feel any sadness though. I've always had a hard time understanding people feeling sadness when a celebrity dies because they didn't even know them. To each their own though.
