I think that the risk/reward profile is complicated for each person. The risk is in tolerating the anxiety of the uncertainty and the reward is the enjoyment of a positive outcome. If eating broccoli carries a safety risk, eating it anyway while managing the anxiety eliminates the fear of the moment. The reward is in being able to enjoy a vegetable, while making a choice that carries a small risk.
