I can always make women laugh (sometimes on purpose) and I often employ self deprecating humor.

What I notice is that women laugh at the self deprecating jokes, but then tell me they don't like that I made fun of myself.

It is like they like it, but at the same time seem to want to rescue me from it...

...if that makes sense.
