Heroism as you've presented it here, is a concept. You seem to be "leading" us to come to a conclusion that will make us more open to (or more primed or conditioned to accept or compliant) the "positive" aspects of psychopathy. Both painful and grotesque but since you've brought it up, let's show everyone the truth about psychopathy.
Start reading and researching this disorder and include narcissist and sociopath in your search. Start checking out victim websites, books on abuse, narcissism, and you will soon enter a world that is so heinous and horrific that you will be amazed that you never knew it was all going on. You will also start to see that it is very common and it's only due to people with a conscience and a heart, that these deplorable people have been able to function. People who are able to compromise, sacrifice and get along, are continuously called upon to keep the game in play. In your research watch videos on the brain functioning of psychopaths. Pay attention here. This is a very easy test that could be administered to many people, and could be done in a short amount of time for a minimal cost. (Compare to months and years of therapy, and dragging the victims in to re-live the abuse or even denying the victims the right to acknowledge that they have BEEN abused. It could be done before they even consider training those who are going into counseling and especially the clergy. THINK ABOUT THIS, and then consider WHY it isn't being done.)
Some websites to check out: Safe Relationships Magazine run by Sandra Brown who also wrote the book "Women Who Love Psychopaths," Narcissist's Suck, House of Mirrors, Light's House a blog about Toxic and Non-Toxic People. These are great places to start. Youtube is also a great resource. Remember, when a person has been proven to be a psychopath by MRI or alleles that check empathy levels--BELIEVE IT. People with the brain functioning of a psychopath are not capable of being in touch with reality or truth. The way that their brain functions doesn't allow them to know that others exist as unique or separate individuals. They are ONLY aware of themselves, how THEY think and feel and due to the way they store information in their brain, this changes with the wind. This article uses presidents as an example to try to justify that this is a good thing--psychopathy. Keep in mind that presidents don't have unlimited power to do as they wish. There are major checks and balances in place that are there just for this reason. To keep those who want to abuse unlimited power from being able to do so. And to imply that ONLY those with "fearless dominance" are capable of dealing with adverse situations or complicated moral dilemmas is, what's the word I'm looking for--a lie, manipulative, deceptive and completely untrue. People with a conscience, once shown the truth and circumstances, can not only make right decisions, they can then help others avoid making bad choices, fight for the needy, (and much more), and they can do it for the right reasons, without fanfare AND most importantly--they can LOVE while they are doing this. By the way, this is another defining characteristic of a person without a conscience--they are unable to love others. They can only "love" themselves but this is not a "healthy" form of love it is actually idolatry, self-worship.
Lastly, when you read articles like this, turn and look at their author. A professional who supposedly has years of experience under their belt and is writing as an "expert" on a certain subject should certainly never try to leave out pertinent information or try to be trite with whimsical hopefulness based on a study like this. The first order of business should have been that they checked each test subject for psychopathy, THEN recorded their reactions to "heroes." Psychopaths love to be worshiped, it's one of their many traits, and to dominate is always their goal. So when they watch movies about people who are idolized, they often think it's about THEM. Remember, there is no truth in them, others don't really exist to them except as "things" to manipulate, not unlike furniture or cards. So when they see movies they can only see how these things relate to themselves, so the movie MUST be about them or for them somehow. Getting the picture? Both painful and grotesque.
