On Being Alone

A short video about being alone

Posted Jun 13, 2013

This is a short video about being alone.

Orpheus lost his wife because of fear of loneliness.  He was given the task of leading Eurydice out of the underworld without looking back at her--being important to her without checking in with her--but he couldn't do it.  Worrying about his ability to lead, or suspicious of in her inner life, or destabilized by the silence between them, he looked back. So he lost her forever.

His need to check in—to know how he was doing, to have evidence of her attention --drained his usefulness.  Connection needs the right amount of slack.
