Modern Day Pin Up Girls: Plus Size Chicks Looking for Role Models

These girls were looking to the past, for a different standard of beauty.

A few days ago, I presented a workshop on sexuality and body image at The Curvy Revolution in Vegas. It was sponsored by Lane Bryant. I wasn't sure what to expect - I had been to fertility conferences, fitness exposes, and even wine conventions. I had never been to a fat celebration before. And I was down with it. After all - I am a curvy woman - who talks all the time about working at accepting and loving the skin you are in RIGHT NOW.

And there was a lot of the expected cheer leading at Curvy Revolution! There was everything from fabulous, and really sexy lingerie, and essentials that plus size women need , to chubby super heros call True Sheros!

But what got me - really got me to me - were the younger women all dressed up as pin up girls. They had flowers in their hair and wore dresses that were vintage Betty Page. I learned that there was a Betty Page store and that they bought they also bought their clothing at PinUpGirlClothing.com

You see these girls couldn't really find a standard of beauty that they could relate to in today's magazines. So they looked to the past. They were searching. They believed in their beauty and they wanted to shout it out! And the Betty Page store, and the PinUpGirlClothing shop brought them to a time where their bodies were celebrated. These stores carried fabulous and sexy items up to size 4X.

These girls were fabulous looking - so beautiful and fresh. They worked it with their high heels and their brand new vintage styles. This was their moment to shine - to be the bell of the ball - and to have all eyes on them.

I wanted this for them all the time - and somehow I knew that these girls really got it. They sourced it from within - and expressed it to the world. Even if they had to look to the past for inspiration and courage.
