Creating Your Vision Board: Unlocking the Power of Intention

A vision board to set powerful intentions and connect with your heart's desires.

Key points

  • A vision board visually stimulates you to go deeper with your needs, desires, and dreams.
  • Both hands-on and visual activities are the perfect combination to work on emotions, thoughts, and actions.
  • Here are simple steps and questions that guide you to create powerful intentions.

Creating a vision board is what I do when I am down, confused, anxious, or excited, starting a new year, or going through a new transition. I developed this habit of collecting magazines and brochures from retreat centers and medication workshops. I keep them because they will visually stimulate me to go deeper with my needs, unmet needs, desires, dreams, and the big picture in my life. Both hands-on and visual activities are the perfect combination for me to work on my emotions, challenges, and plans in my personal and professional life.

Counting down the days to the new year 2025, I again prepare myself to connect with my intentions by creating a vision board.

A vision board (or dream board) is a collage of images, words, and phrases representing your goals, wishes, and needs. Having your vision board ready will make your goals and vision for the new year easier. The process of creating a vision board supports you in setting intentions and motivates you to visualize your goals and vision.

Here are some simple steps you can follow;

First, Plan-Secure-Community process: Your intention setting starts when you plan for this activity. Find a date and time that works for you to have spaciousness (mental, emotional, and spiritual) with a secure physical space. I also recommend connecting with your loved ones and community, who can celebrate, welcome a new year, and reflect on the past with gratitude. You are ready to move to the second step once you have planned a date, location, and people joining this sacred process.

Second, Reflect-Collect-Assemble process: You will go through magazines with pictures and find the best images representing your motivations, inspirations, and plans for 2025. You will make a collage out of your photos. You may want to add "affirmation words" that represent your 2025. Step out of your comfort thinking and feeling zone and be open to receiving wisdom from your whole being (body, memories, emotions, relationships).

You may find the following questions helpful for self-reflection, intentionality, and exploring practical considerations.

Reflecting on the Past Year

  • What were my most significant achievements last year?

  • What have you celebrated the most in the previous year?

  • What challenges did I overcome, and what did I learn from them?

  • Which moments brought me the most joy?

  • Are there any patterns or habits I want to leave behind?

Setting Intentions

  • What do I want to feel more of in the coming year (peace, excitement, confidence)?
  • What areas of my life need the most attention or nurturing?
  • What are three things I want to accomplish this year?
  • How do I want to grow personally or professionally?
  • Who do I want to become by the end of this year?

Practical Considerations

  • What is one word or theme that will guide me this year?
  • What steps can I take to move closer to my goals?
  • What resources or support will I need to reach my goals?
  • How do I want to celebrate each small growth throughout the year?

Third, Display-Share-Support process: We will look at our vision board and collectively process our needs, wants, feelings, and motivations. No rules or limitations exist on how you display and express your vision. Welcome new insights and feedback from your community. At the same time, choose what you want to keep and let go of, especially comments and input from others if needed. It is your vision; give yourself the freedom to sow it in your heart.

Lastly, Affirm-Committee "This Is My Year": With your vision board, you can reach a wider group of people, including your partner, children, other family members, and friends, and claim your vision.

Starting a new year with your vision board, your journey will be more intentional, visionary, and uniquely fulfilling than ever before. Wishing you all the best in this exciting new chapter and a Happy New Year!
