I believe there is no ideal client. But one that has pain or a struggle hidden behind a facade that society had dictated in terms of the individual roles we need to fulfill in our lives. Hidden behind the "shoulds" and the "musts". All people really yearn for is for someone to hold a non-judgmental space for them to voice their unsaid thoughts and emotions, to feel heard, respected, connected, seen, felt and significant.
To do so, unlike doctors who use x-rays or blood tests to determine why someone's in pain, the wounds that interests me are hidden. I ask questions, and listen carefully to the answers. That's how I discover why the person in front of me is "bleeding". I use a person-centered and collaborative approach to help clients realize the best version of themselves
When a client leaves, it is my hope that they feel this way- "When a person realizes he has been deeply heard, his eyes moisten. I think in some real sense he is weeping joy. It is as though he were saying, "Thank God, somebody heard me. Someone knows what it's like to be me" - Carl R. Rogers
