It is an honor to assist clients in their personal growth work. I believe that a strong, therapeutic relationship based on a foundation of safety, trust and commitment is essential. I enjoy clients who are insightful, open, and curious. Working together, we use a combination of insight oriented therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR) in addition to other strategies. I particularly enjoy clients who take an active role in therapy by creating their own goals and challenging themselves outside of the sessions. A certain amount of bravery is required and I very much respect this.
Mindfulness meditation and yoga help to cultivate present moment awareness which can have a profound impact on anxiety, depression, and chronic pain. I completed the MBSR for Professionals course at Duke Integrative Medicine as well as a 200 hour yoga teacher training for behavioral health professionals at MAHEC in Asheville, NC.
Psychotropic medications and other interventions can be helpful at times for individuals struggling with particular symptoms. I have been working as a clinician in the RTP area since 1989 and have strong collegial relationships with local psychiatrists, therapists, community and university-based programs.
