We all have things in our lives that we want to change, making adjustments starts to happen when we feel we are listened to, cared about and respected. Having a safe place to look at our thoughts, feelings, beliefs and habits in a non-judgmental therapeutic relationship can help us start this journey. I can offer you my years of experience and education to help you begin or even continue your growth. My approach to therapy is to build a relationship with you and get to know what things you like (strengths based) and also what things you want to change.

Do you ever notice that your mind is worrying about something in the future, or maybe stuck in the past, all the while missing out on the present moment? Mindfulness-based techniques can help and I would love to support you in learning and practicing these skills. I am an over thinker myself, and this is why I enjoy working with young adults and adults on managing their anxiety. Mindfulness practices can also help us get in touch with or rediscover the small joys in life, and there are many!

I specialize in weaving together mind, body, and energy based practices to support your overall well being. Do you ever wonder why your reaction to a situation is stronger than you'd like it to be? You feel overwhelmed, you know you are overreacting, but can't seem to do anything different, no matter how hard you try. If so, then we should talk. It is likely you have some outdated limiting beliefs operating beneath the surface. I use a mind-body-energy approach which blends together EMDR, (CBT), mindfulness and breathwork, inner child and "parts work," Havening, and Clinical EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) tapping.

I have been practicing psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and couples therapy for over thirty years. I believe that all of us are attempting to better understand our emotions/actions in order to develop a stronger sense of self and to achieve more satisfying personal relationships and careers. While I have completed five years of postdoctoral training geared toward working with highly motivated, insight oriented patients, I have worked in many different communities with diverse populations and am quite comfortable with assisting men, women and children from all walks of life in achieving their personal goals for growth.

I help struggling teens and adults, distant couples, and hurting families. I provide a safe and comfortable atmosphere for people to explore their pain and challenges without fear of judgment. Building a strong relationship where my clients know they are cared for and are free to laugh or cry (we do a lot of both) is extremely important to me. As a social worker at heart, I try to help those I work with recognize the strengths they have as well as to recognize where one's lifestyle may be out of balance with one's personal values.

Integrative Mental Health. I believe that the mind and body work together and a holistic approach is the most effective. I believe in a CBT approach, where I will push you to do the work. I am ART trained, which is an eye movement therapy known as Accelerated Resolution Therapy, used to process trauma in 1-3 sessions. I am DBT trained, which teaches life skills to help with anxiety, depression, impulsivity and emotions. I find this crucial for my teens. I love working with, teens, young adults, and adults.

I provide a safe, trustworthy environment in which individuals, couples, and families are able to explore the challenges that prompt them to seek therapy. As a deep listener, I enjoy helping people clarify their concerns and find effective solutions. I infuse what can be serious and heavy work with humor and energy, to shift out of a focus on problems, into a focus on strengths and solutions. Similarly, my coaching, supervisory, and training style is collaborative, empowering, strength-based, and solution-focused.

Immediate Openings! Maybe you’re feeling stuck? Perhaps you feel overwhelmed and anxious, wondering how you’re going to hold it all together to get through the next month or even week. Your relationships have been suffering and you find yourself irritable, withdrawn, or increasingly sad or numb. Or maybe you’ve been through challenging or traumatic experiences in the past and recognize these events are still affecting you today. You might also see these signs in your child and want to support them as they navigate challenging friendships, big emotions and stressful life changes.

Are you looking for a better way? As we work together, you can optimize the strengths you already possess, develop insight, and learn techniques that can help you heal yourself and nurture your relationships. The goal of therapy is to begin to see yourself and others in new and more productive ways. I enjoy working with adults, couples, and teens (from the age of 15) of all backgrounds, sexual orientations, and interests. Often, work with teens will include some level of interaction with caregivers so that constructive adjustments can be made and sustained.

I am passionate about building strong connections and repairing damaged relationships. It is normal to struggle when our problems seem bigger than we can handle. My role as a therapist is to walk with you on your journey, listen, help explore your feelings and identify solutions to your life challenges. I offer a non-judgmental and empathetic environment that advocates growth and healing. I believe a therapeutic environment should be authentic, emotionally safe, and at the same time challenging with a balance between hard work and fun.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in New Hartford?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
