I have a very warm and accepting approach and understand that life can be complicated and a good conversation can make a significant difference. I have experience working with a range of concerns, including couples/marital difficulties, depression, anxiety, traumatic experiences, family of origin concerns, life transitions and spirituality. Also, I'm thankful that I can draw upon my many years of experience helping others as a former pastor and director of a successful education-based young-adult program. I provide therapy to adults, young adults, and couples.I am happily married and have four school-aged children.

Are you experiencing the despair, confusion, and guilt that sometimes follow a loss? This can be the death of a loved one, the loss of a job, the loss of a beloved pet, or the end of a significant relationship. I specialize in grief and loss. I bring over 30 years of experience working with depression, anxiety, and healing traumatic life events. I worked in the palliative care field as a social worker for over 15 years and as a result understand the health system challenges and the roller coaster of emotions that come with waiting for a loved one’s death. I will walk alongside you as you attempt to make sense of life after loss.

No issue is too small or too big for counselling! Maybe you are dealing with past or present circumstances that have left you feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stressed, angry or sad. Perhaps you need help navigating big or small transitions or events in your life; these may be deeply painful or even wonderful, yet anxiety provoking. Struggling with pregnancy/postpartum/birth trauma? Maybe you want to develop mind+body health, self-compassion, and rediscover your true self. If you're ready to feel heard and supported and you're willing to engage in the counselling process with courage and openness, therapy can help.

From the beginning, we are given a specific set of skills. Our environment and biology continue to shape us as we are faced with unique challenges. Throughout our development we learn that living in this world is no easy task. The skills that we have or acquired aren’t working the way we had hoped. It is in this moment that we can feel lost and alone. My hope is to create a space for everyone to explore these experiences and acquire new skills to help them face life’s challenges. It is through this that we build resilience and are able to reach our goals.

Mental health issues, especially traumatic experiences and major life stressors can significantly impact our daily lives, and make us feel disconnected from ourselves, our loved ones, and other important aspects of our lives. I believe that building such connections is the key to healing. Hence, my work focuses on helping my clients build healthier perceptions of themselves and strengthen their relationships. I am here for you with empathy and compassion. I am here to listen to you and together we will explore what happened.

Life comes with a lot of painful obstacles that sometimes make one doubt their capacity to push through. Are you struggling through a difficult time and are starting to feel hopeless about life? Does it feel like you have no control over your life and have no idea on what to do?

My extensive experience in programs for youth and adults enhanced my passion for helping and establishing connections with others. I have always been interested in establishing a deeper understanding of our life experiences, how they shape us as well as the development of our interpersonal relationships. This interest and curiosity stems from my own journey with interpersonal relationships, grief, and parenthood that has developed into the foundation of my appreciation for the strength and healing that we all share within our unique journeys.

My goal is to be a rock-steady supportive force in my client’s lives as we work, first, to make the most out of the adversities and suffering they encounter, and then, to help fulfill their vision of a life worth living. With fierce compassion and companionship, cultural humility, coping skills, solution-focused strategies, and a dash of existential humor, I cater to my clients as unique human beings with individual needs. I intimately know what it’s like to not have a safe space where you can be seen for who you truly are, so I understand how exceptionally important it is for my clients to have our therapy be that secure base.

I know that accessing counselling takes courage and I am glad you have landed on my page. Both my lived experience as a queer woman of colour and my training help guide therapy. We will work together collaboratively towards your healing and growth. My experience allows me to see the importance of cultural values and beliefs but also how that may impact an individual in a culturally diverse society. I work from a trauma informed and culturally inclusive perspective. I use an approach that uses the client's strengths to foster growth and promote mental wellness.

Our healing begins with an insight into our experiences and the meanings we have attributed to them. I will work with you through a trauma-informed lens to explore the meanings contributing to your mind, body, and spiritual well-being. Together we can regain agency over your narratives and cultivate the wisdom to navigate future embodied experiences. I believe that therapy is a relational process. I aim to help my clients with personal and social growth by nurturing a safe space. I will focus on working with what is present in the “here and now” while honouring the stories that shape how we think and feel. We heal in community.

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, postal code, or a provider’s name into the search bar. Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
