I frequently work with the following clients - teenagers, university students, and adults. Are you feeling stuck within yourself, or your relationship with a loved one is strained and when you try and resolve it, the relationship actually gets worse rather than better? Are you feeling angry, sad or unfulfilled with your life and are ready for a positive change? I understand that challenges come up in work, in relationships, or inside of ourselves and I listen and share with you some new tools and perspectives to deal with your emotions and situations in a much more positive and helpful way.

I prefer face-to-face counselling, although I can also offer online appointments if that suits you better. I see myself as your “chauffeur,” leading the client to the destination at a pace that suits you and taking a safe route so you feel comfortable. This sense of safety represents my Person-Centred Approach, where we explore the issues as equals. In the busyness of the modern age, our minds can easily become overwhelmed, and it is easy to feel that our thoughts do not represent what is “real”.

I help people untangle patterns and navigate life's challenges. You may be feeling overwhelmed or stuck. Perhaps you're dealing with the impacts of past trauma, relationship difficulties, anxiety, grief, heartbreak, or a pervasive sense of emptiness or unease. Whatever you're facing, I bring compassion and curiosity to our work together. Some people start therapy during an especially difficult time; others come with a sense that something deeper needs attention. Either way, I work best with clients who are interested in how meaningful change unfolds over time.

We all go through difficult times in our lives when we might feel unfulfilled, overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, depressed, dealing with loss, facing a major life-change, or struggling with relationship dynamics. Sometimes these feelings are accompanied by physical symptoms such as muscle tension, headaches, palpitations, sleep disturbances, or fatigue. Counselling provides a safe and supportive space to gain insights into your emotional and behavioural patterns and leads you to self-discovery, improved relationships, and a more fulfilling life. With me you will feel safe, supported, valued, and respected during the therapeutic process.

Marriage Counselling

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
