Many of the people I work with are capable, high-functioning adults who look 'fine' from the outside, but inside they’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or are carrying more than they should have to. You may be navigating relationship strain, workplace stress or burnout, trauma, or a have a sense that something could be better. Perhaps you hold responsibility for others at work or at home, and there is very little space where you can be supported yourself. I am a Masters-qualified counsellor & supervisor with substantial experience in trauma recovery, domestic & family violence work, and supporting professionals in high-pressure roles.

I work with individuals and couples who are functioning on the outside but struggling internally, feeling anxious, emotionally overwhelmed, disconnected in relationships, or stuck in painful repeating patterns. Many of my clients are thoughtful, capable people who find themselves overthinking, shutting down, becoming reactive in conflict, or losing themselves in relationships. Together, we work to understand the patterns beneath these experiences, develop greater self-awareness and emotional steadiness, and create more connected, intentional ways of relating to themselves and others.

I am a counsellor and trauma therapist, specialised in including the body in therapeutic work.
My Bachelor of Counselling has given me a strong foundation in a variety of counselling approaches. Since then, I have continued my studies in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. Insights from neuroscience have shown how important it is to listen to and work with the body, when we are dealing with challenges like trauma, anxiety and depression. Together, we can find safe ways to access the wisdom of the body, which will lead to healing and insights much deeper than just using our thinking mind.

Many of the people I work with have spent years holding everything together while quietly living with the effects of trauma. They are capable, independent adults who have become experts at surviving, yet feel emotionally exhausted, disconnected from themselves, or held back by experiences they cannot move beyond. You may be struggling with PTSD, anxiety, shame, relationship difficulties or feeling constantly on edge. You may look as though you are coping while knowing something needs to change. For many people, it is not about becoming someone new, but about reconnecting with who they have always been beneath the trauma.

I work with people who are experiencing everyday issues as well as people who are struggling with more complex mental health issues. Sometimes there isn't something "wrong", but things don't feel okay or "right". Sometimes we know what we should say or do, but find ourselves doing or saying something opposite to what we intended. Sometimes we think that we know ourselves or someone else and then realise that we really don't. I'm here to help you accept who you are and the ways that you are. Through self-acceptance many challenges can be overcome. My work with couples helps them to create connection and better communication again.

As Bessel van der Kolk notes, trauma is specifically an event that overwhelms the central nervous system, altering the way we process and recall memories. “Trauma is not the story of something that happened back then," he adds. "It's the current imprint of that pain, horror, and fear living inside people.” I am a well-established health professional who has dedicated my professional life working on releasing trauma in a natural, nurturing way, returning my clients to their natural state of wholeness. I call this "The Journey Home". I work from a neuroscience perspective. Harmonizing all aspects of our being Mind, Body and Soul

I have helped thousands of people with Depression, anxiety and relationship issues. I treat each person as the unique person they are and we work together to figure out what is required. Sometimes people need help navigating through grief through loss or through fertility issues or illness and I can help with that. Sometimes couples want help to ensure their communication is improved, or help with navigating post separation arrangements with for their children. I am a firm believer in the benefits of Yoga and Meditation but do not push this on to clients if they do not wish to use these tools.

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
